Poll: Who Should Be Alabama’s Mr. Basketball?

One of the biggest topics of discussion that has circled the basketball community since the middle of December is, "Who should be Alabama’s Mr. Basketball?" I cannot tell you the countless number of conversations I have had at games, at the barbershop, in the gym while working out, and on social media about this topic. There have been some valid cases presented with some excellent points. In the poll, you will see several names, but truth be told, the majority of the debate features the two top-ranked players, Barry Dunning Barry Dunning 6'6" | NA lbs | SF McGill-Toolen | 2022 State #133 Nation AL (#1) and Corey Stephenson Corey Stephenson 6'5" | SG Hueytown | 2022 State AL (#2).

A lot has been written about the players that are in the poll, especially Barry and Corey. Regarding Barry and Corey, I have met and talked with them both, and they are fine young men with great futures ahead of them on and off the court.

For those of you who know my writing style, this article will not follow the normal flow. This article is to give every reader a voice and a vote. Finished the season ranked #1 in our final regular-season poll and averaged 22.2pts/game and 10.2pts/game. He helped lead his team to a #4 ranking in Class 6A.

Corey Stephenson Corey Stephenson 6'5" | SG Hueytown | 2022 State AL  (6’5/Shooting Guard)

School: Hueytown HS

Finished the season ranked #2 in our final regular-season poll and averaged 29pts/game. He helped lead his team to a #6 ranking in Class 6A.

Martavious Russell Martavious Russell 6'4" | NA lbs | SF Sipsey Valley | 2022 State #239 Nation AL  (6’4/Small Forward)

School: Sipsey Valley HS

Finished the season ranked #4 in our final regular-season poll.  

Antonio Kite Antonio Kite 6'1" | NA lbs | PG Anniston | 2022 State #240 Nation AL  (6’1/Point Guard)

School: Anniston HS

Finished the season ranked #5 in our final regular-season poll.  

Anthony Johnson Anthony Johnson 6'4" | CG Midfield | 2022 State AL  (6’4/Guard)

School: Midfield HS

Finished the season ranked #6 in our final regular-season poll and averaged 22pts/game. He helped lead his team to a #1 ranking in Class 2A.

Calen Lightford Calen Lightford 5'11" | NA lbs | PG Sparkman | 2022 State #NA Nation AL  (5’11/Point Guard)

School: Sparkman HS

Finished the season ranked #7 in our final regular-season poll and averaged 17pts/game and 4-assist/game. He helped lead his team to a #9 ranking in Class 7A.

Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson 6'4" | NA lbs | SG Grissom | 2022 State #NA Nation AL (6’4/Shooting Guard)

School: Grissom HS

Finished the season ranked #8 in our final regular-season poll and averaged 26pts/game and 8-rebounds/game. He helped lead his team to a #2 ranking in Class 7A.
