Two of the more historic programs in western Illinois that are perennial powers and have good squads this season. It was close throughout and came down to the last shot as Quincy got a defensive stop to hang on to the win 49-47 for at least a share of the conference championship. We break it down in Standout Performers: Quincy vs Rock Island!
Jeremiah Talton Jeremiah Talton 6'6" | SF Quincy Senior | 2022 State IL (Quincy – 2022)
Talton is among the top uncommitted seniors in the state. It was his senior night. The shots didn’t fall for him. The usually reliable three point threat couldn’t find the touch from distance in this one only hitting one on the night. He did manage to get to the line, take his usual charges, make the extra pass, and rebound. Finished with 10 points before fouling out.
Bradley Longcor (Quincy – 2025)
This kid has a super bright future. The lengthy 6’2” combo guard has such a smoothness and fluidity to his game. He is creative with the rock in his hands being able to win off the dribble and get where he needs to for his shot. Clean looking jumper as he hit four triples in this game. Passes with flair and overall has an advanced feel. Longcor had 20 points in the win.
Ralph Wires Ralph Wires 5'9" | PG Quincy | 2024 State IL (Quincy – 2024)
Wires is a left handed sophomore combo guard that is a crisp passer that made several nice reads in this game for dimes. Handles well and is a solid spot up shooter. Went for 6 points.
Dominique Clay (Quincy – 2025)
Clay only plays limited minutes but is screaming upside. Long and lanky wing that has a free and easy shooting stroke. Was effective in his time on the floor defensively.
Keshaun Thomas (Quincy – 2025)
Thomas is a strong bodied 6’5” 220 pound post who is a beast on the glass. Excellent area rebounder that knows how to box out his opponent. Struggles finishing at times but then will have a spectacular reverse layup. He had 5 points.
Amarion Nimmers Amarion Nimmers 6'2" | PG Rock Island | 2022 State IL (Rock Island – 2022)
Nimmers was the show for Rocky in this one. The scoring combo guard went for 22 points. He was so slippery through traffic on drives getting in the lane for scores, fouls, or kicking to shooters. As the game went on his jumper started to fall hitting a couple of big ones. Also was scrappy on the defensive end getting several key takeaways.
Marieon Anderson Marieon Anderson 6'3" | SG Rock Island | 2022 State IL (Rock Island – 2022)
Anderson is a strong bodied combo guard. He is a high level rebounder from the guard spot that plays with physicality around the basket. Did all of his damage scoring in the paint netting 10 points.
Kai Rios (Rock Island – 2022)
Rios is a football recruit who early in the process we thought could be a hoops prospect if he chose that route. Very good offensive rebounder that had several put backs and rebounded well in his area.
Cameron Atkinson Cameron Atkinson 6'5" | PG Rock Island Senior | 2023 IL (Rock Island – 2023)
The 2023 shooting guard hit a pair of key threes at the start of the third quarter to ignite a Rock Island rally. He had 8 points.
