County/conference tournaments are coming to an end as teams are gearing up for deep runs in states. The Somerset County Tournament was full of excitement as Gill St. Bernard’s topped Rutgers Prep 84-63 in the title game. Here are the stop standouts from the Somerset County Tournament Final.

[player_tooltip player_id="902732" first="Mackenzie" last="Mgbako"], 6’8 SF Gill St. Bernard’s 2023

Mgbako was almost unguardable as he powered the Knights throughout the game. The 6’8 wing has a smooth offensive game as he scored at all three levels and was able to get to whatever spot he wanted to on the floor. Mgbako nailed a couple of tough fadeaways and muscled shots through contact around the basket. He ripped down rebounds on both ends of the floor and made good passes throughout the game. Mgbako forms a deadly perimeter duo with 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="902746" first="Naasir" last="Cunningham"], which makes Gill St. Bernard’s one of the most dangerous teams in New Jersey.

[player_tooltip player_id="901964" first="Ryan" last="Zan"], 6’7 PF Rutgers Prep 2022

Zan had a big first half for the Argonauts as he was the main source of offense for them early. The 6’7 forward used his strong frame to draw contact around the rim and has a nice touch around the basket. Zan showed off his range when he knocked down an open triple and shot the ball with confidence at the free throw line. He worked hard on the glass and made few poor decisions with the ball in his hands. Zan has been a force down low all season for Rutgers Prep and is looking to continue his play in the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="850666" first="Denver" last="Anglin"], 6’0 PG Gill St. Bernard’s 2022

Anglin started off the game slow, but made key shots for the Knights when they needed them most. The Georgetown commit hit a big triple to end the first half, which jumpstarted the Knights into a big second half. Anglin has a clean shooting stroke, but he was also able to get into the lane and make plays. He had a big chase-down block in the first half and pushed the tempo frequently. Anglin is a sharpshooter who is capable of getting hot in a hurry, which is key for Gill St. Bernard’s in the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="902744" first="Cameron" last="Piggee"], 6’0 PG Rutgers Prep 2023

Piggee provided the Argonauts with the lift they needed on the perimeter as he poured in 18 points. The 6’0 guard knocked down five triples in the game as he shot the ball with confidence from the beginning. Piggee moved well off the ball, creating open opportunities for himself on the perimeter. He slid his feet on the defensive end and dove for loose balls on the floor. Piggee is a gritty, guard prospect who is the perfect complement to [player_tooltip player_id="902756" first="Jadin" last="Collins"] in the backcourt.

[player_tooltip player_id="1269773" first="Geancarlo" last="Peguero"], 6’5 SF Gill St. Bernard’s 2023

Peguero had a big game for the Knights as he was the secondary scorer they needed in the final. The 6’5 wing attacked the basket hard as he was able to finish through contact and got to the line with consistency. Peguero has a nice release on his jumper and made Rutgers Prep pay for giving him space on the perimeter. He skied for rebounds at both ends and moved well within the flow of the offense. Peguero’s ability to finish around the basket is something that Gill St. Bernard’s will need if they want to take home a sectional title.
