February is halfway over, and conference/county tournaments are in full swing in the Garden State. The Shore Conference Tournament tips off today and it is filled with breakout candidates. Here are the prospects in the Shore Conference who could break out during the tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="1206544" first="Kevin" last="Burns"], 6’0 PG Point Pleasant Beach 2023

Burns is in the middle of a breakout season for the Garnets Gulls and has a chance to continue it in the opening round against CBA. The 6’0 guard has a good handle, which he uses to get into the lane and make plays. Burns also has a nice release on his jumper and his range extends past the three-point line. He is a strong rebounder and knows how to get his teammates involved in the half court. Burns has a pair of triple-doubles this season and has the potential for another one in the Shore Conference Tournament.

Matt Lee, 6’3 SG Point Pleasant Boro 2022

Lee is set for a breakout Shore Conference Tournament as the Panthers look to make noise. The 6’3 guard has good shooting stroke and can make opponents pay for giving him space behind the arc. Lee moves exceptionally well off the ball, creating open jumpers and layups for himself. He is unafraid of taking clutch free throws down the stretch and is an underrated passer. Lee’s shooting ability is something that will be key for Point Pleasant Boro as the Panthers look to pull off an upset or two.

[player_tooltip player_id="901965" first="Charles" last="Anyichie"], 6’7 PF Ranney 2022

Anyichie poured in 22 points in his last game and is looking to carry the scoring over into the Shore Conference Tournament. The 6’7 forward plays with a motor that doesn’t stop as he gives it his all on both ends of the floor. Anyichie is tough to box out on both ends of the floor and uses his athleticism to swat shots around the basket. He is developing his low post game and is working on his range. Anyichie is a hard-working forward prospect who could have a big Shore Conference Tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="1039494" first="Luke" last="Braaten"], 6’7 PF Brick Memorial 2022

Braaten has been a force down low for the Mustangs all season long and it should continue during the Shore Conference Tournament. The 6’7 forward has good hands and is a good finisher around the basket. Braaten plays with nice footwork in the post on both ends of the floor and sets good screens in the half court. He skies for rebounds and is one of the top shot-blockers in the Shore. Braaten has been a double-double machine for Brick Memorial in 2021-22 and is looking to rack up double-doubles in the conference tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="933644" first="Samir" last="Padilla"], 5’10 PG Jackson Memorial 2023

Padilla has been the go-to guy in the Jaguars’ offense this season and that trend should continue. The 5’10 guard has a smooth release on his jumper and can knock down triples in bunches. Padilla is more than just a shooter as he has a good handle, which he uses to get into the lane and finish around the basket. He is an underrated rebounder and plays with quick hands on the defensive end. Padilla is set for a big Shore Conference Tournament as Jackson Memorial has the chance to make a deep run in 2022.
