The regional semifinals across all classes are set to begin tomorrow night across Florida. In this article, I will take a look at the four South Florida matchups in Class 3A Region 4.

No. 1 seed Westminster Academy vs No. 5 seed Florida Christian

Westminster Academy is on a 12-game winning streak as it meets Florida Christian on Tuesday night. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301705" first="Alexander" last="Lloyd"] has been a spark plug with his 23.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Moreover, the 6-foot-4 guard is shooting 73-of-178 (41 percent) from deep. Lloyd is a three-level scorer with his athleticism while decision making is improving. Any sort of containment on Lloyd would be a win for Florida Christian. Don't turn the ball over and let this kid throw a tomahawk down above the rim. 6-foot-8 power forward [player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"] could be difficult to stop inside. Carey is averaging 17.7 points and 12.2 rebounds per game this season. His overall athleticism, specifically off his pivot, is where Carey can be difficult. He already has the size to create separation and finish around the basket. Maybe you play the odds and look for him to beat you on the free-throw line. Even so, Carey has improved in this area. 2025 Gustavo Guimaraes (6'10) is an additional big body that is developing his offensive game. Defensively, I think the combination of 6-foot-5 [player_tooltip player_id="546221" first="Aidan" last="Abell"], 6-foot-7 [player_tooltip player_id="814984" first="Rickey" last="Ballard"], as well as Lloyd, could create some perimeter problems for Florida Christian given their size, length, and athleticism. However, the Patriots can still spread the wealth and shoot with four players having 25 or more 3-pointers. 5-foot-10 [player_tooltip player_id="829513" first="Nicholas" last="Mate"] (98 3pm) and 5-foot-9 [player_tooltip player_id="814930" first="Jose" last="Amat"] III (47 3pm) are likely candidates. Both players can create and fire in a hurry. I think the Patriots’ ability to rebound with players like [player_tooltip player_id="956772" first="Levertis" last="Williams"] (5.6 rpg), Jacob Holcombe (5 rpg), and [player_tooltip player_id="829448" first="Tyler" last="Greene"] (4.5 rpg) could give them extra possessions to score. It can be a collective effort to counter Carey and company.

No. 2 seed Riviera Prep vs No. 6 seed Somerset Prep

Somerset Prep secured an impressive victory over Miami Christian in the quarterfinals on Thursday night. The Hurricanes have two double-figure scorers in forward [player_tooltip player_id="956797" first="Deshayne" last="Montgomery"] (18 ppg) and guard [player_tooltip player_id="955766" first="Jaiden" last="Miller"] (15.6 ppg). The senior pair account for over half of Somerset Prep’s scoring. The 5-foot-10 Miller can dish (5.3 apg) and is a strong on-ball defender (2.5 spg). The 6-foot-4 Montgomery is a versatile playmaker on defense with six rebounds, three steals and 2.5 blocks per game. I think 6-foot-1 Ricardo Corvil (14.6 rpg) is going to need a big day on the glass. Riviera Prep counters with 6-foot-10 [player_tooltip player_id="1062414" first="Edward" last="Nnamoko"] (11.1 rpg) and 6-foot-5 Joachim Ametepe (8.2 rpg). 5-foot-9 point guard and Lynn commit [player_tooltip player_id="814913" first="Esteban" last="Lluberes"] could set the pace/tone for Riviera Prep. Lluberes is averaging 18.2 points, 4.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. In addition, he has made 51 3-pointers. His overall decision making and leadership during this time in the season is a plus. 6-foot-4 [player_tooltip player_id="1301788" first="Dante" last="Allen"] (11.8 ppg/6.1 rpg) could be a problem in transition with his ball skill and athleticism.
