Continue ReadingBrecksville traveled to Lakewood, Ohio and took down powerhouse St Edward, becoming the first northeast Ohio public school to beat the Eagles at their home gym in over a decade. Brecksville got off to a hot start from long range and never looked back despite St Ed’s cutting the deficit from 20 points to 2 in the fourth quarter. Here were the top performers from the contest.
Luke Skaljac Luke Skaljac 6'2" | PG Brecksville-Broadview Hts | 2024 State #162 Nation OH , 6’1 PG Brecksville 2024: Skaljac had a career high 31 points and looked like one of the top Sophomore guards in the entire state of Ohio on Tuesday night. Skaljac was red hot to start with four 3-pointers in the first quarter including a heat check pull-up from 25+ feet. Skaljac plays with great pace to his game and was always the one his teammates looked for when trying to break a press or just to make a play. Skaljac came through all night, especially when the lights shined brightest. Despite playing almost the entire game, he had enough energy to make multiple drive and score buckets when the Eagles were threatening to take the lead. Skaljac will make a splash in the top 15 of our rankings during the next update in the spring.
Jair Knight Jair Knight 6'2" | SG Saint Edward | 2022 State OH , 6’2 SG St Edward 2022: Knight has had a breakout senior season as he’s established himself as a clear scholarship level prospect. Knight is a great athlete with the ability to fly for dunks or blocks. Knight has developed as a shooter as well from long distance and turned this weakness into a neutral skill relative to other prospects at his position. Look for Knight to play a key role if the Eagles want to make it back to the final four this season.
Wendell Henry Wendell Henry 6'5" | PF St. Edward - Lakewood, OH | 2024 State OH , 6’5 PF St Edward 2024: Henry played the most complete game that I’ve seen of him in his young career. Henry has good physical tools standing at around 6’5, 6’6. Henry took three 3-pointers and made one and had another go in and out. Henry also showed good effort on the glass, using his size and strength for offensive rebounds. This was a night where the Sophomore grew up a bit and should see his role expand next season.
Chase Garito Chase Garito 6'8" | C Brecksville-Broadview Heights | 2023 State OH , 6’8 PF Brecksville 2023: Garito provided key size and rebounding for the Bees as they were without a usual starter due to injury who usually helps out in that aspect. Garito has good mobility for a player his size and always competes on both ends. Chase does have the tendency to miss some makable shots and despite missing a couple shots from point blank range, still ended with a double-double on the night. If Garito can become more consistent at the rim, he could unlock a new ceiling for his game.
