SANTA ANA, Ca— [player_tooltip player_id="992483" first="Dusty" last="Stromer"], who is one of the top juniors in the West, was too much for St. Augustine to handle as he dropped in an efficient 20-points while grabbing 8 rebounds. The game was blessed with a plethora of talented underclassmen, including St. Augustine standout junior [player_tooltip player_id="992479" first="Jurian" last="Dixon"] and their budding 2024 guard duo of Lawrence Rudolph and Jaden Matingou. However, Notre Dame received an outstanding performance from Luke Rishwain as he dropped in 18-points.

Joel’s Take: Dixon started out slow, but he put together a nice run of buckets down the stretch. He is a physical wing who attacks well off the dribble, although not overly quick. However, he uses his strength and bulky frame to ward off defenders and finish through contact. His pull-up game is tight as well and he can knock in the 3-point shot, but it needs to get more consistent. Overall, he wasn’t efficient (9-of-25 fga), but he did grab 8 rebounds and snagged 3 steals to impact other aspects of the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="748773" first="Ben" last="Shtolzberg"] (SO Notre Dame)

2022, PG, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds

Joel’s Take: Shtolzberg is a physical point guard who possesses deceptive speed and quickness. He isn’t a burner, but he changes speeds very well and his head is always up. Despite the 5 turnovers, I thought he managed the game well against some quality guards. His jump shot was not going down, but he used his savvy to impact other aspects of the game as he ended up with 12-points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.

“Touch” of Craftiness

Ian De La Rosa (St. Augustine)

2024, G, 6-foot-2, 170 pounds

Joel’s Take: De La Rosa is a jack-of-all-trades type of prospect who is quite deceptive due to his skill and overall feel for the game. He has a superb touch and gets defenders off balance with his savvy and impeccable touch. His hands are active on the defensive end (4 steals) and he isn’t afraid to pound the paint for rebounds (10 boards), despite his slight frame.

Paint Impact

[player_tooltip player_id="994915" first="Derrius" last="Carter-Hollinger"] (St. Augustine)

2023, F, 6-foot-5, 190 pounds

Joel’s Take: Carter-Hollinger can play inside and out, but he did his damage in this game in the paint area, including a nifty dunk in the 2nd half. Despite being undersized for the paint area, his long arms, broad shoulders, and a knack to score in traffic were in play. He can attack from the elbow, hover around the rim for tip-ins, and he can use either hand while finishing.
