High Potential Junior Wings
In this article:
The regular season has a month left and at this point we have a pretty big sample size of games to judge teams off of. Here’s a look at some 2023 prospects who have shown they have big time potential as college prospects.
Tim Fuller II Tim Fuller II 6'6" | SF Ballard | 2023 State KY , Ballard – Fuller has been well traveled over the last few seasons but seems to have settled in at Ballard and he’s only going to get better by going up against that sort of talent on a daily basis. Already having great size and a pure shooting stroke, Tim can score the ball at all 3 levels and has become much more athletic over the past year or so.
Ondre Wicks Ondre Wicks 6'5" | SF Western | 2023 State KY , Western – Ondre may be on the short list of best athletes in Louisville as he plays well above the rim and gets off the floor quickly. Wicks has started to get more aggressive on the court in the last month or so and has had a couple of double doubles in recent weeks. As he gets more confident in his outside jumper, the 6’5 Wicks has as high of a ceiling as any wing in the class because of his athleticism and motor.
Dylan Hammonds Dylan Hammonds 6'5" | SF Grant County | 2023 State KY , Grant County – The best player that it seems like no one even knows about, Hammonds is on his way to one of the best high school careers in Grant County history. Dylan has great positional size at 6’5 or so and can score the ball all over the court. He also rebounds really well and can play with the ball in his hands some. Hammonds is the type of player who goes to Thomas More and terrorizes the Mid South Conference for several years.
Xavier Price Xavier Price 6'4" | SF Jeffersontown | 2023 State KY , Jeffersontown – There is so much talent in Louisville that kids are consistently overlooked and Price falls under that description for sure. Xavier has good positional size and athleticism and is a very efficient scorer who is averaging 51% shooting overall and 46% from three with his limited shots for the Chargers. Watch for Price to be a kid to attract some college coaches this summer with his continued strong play.
Jack McCune Jack McCune 6'5" | SG McCracken County | 2023 State KY , McCracken County – Mainly because of geography, our teams in far western Kentucky don’t get a ton of shine. Because of that, kids like McCune can get overlooked. Jack has made some big strides this season and has shown himself to be a really solid two way player who can guard but also can go and get buckets on the offensive end. Averaging 14 points and 6 rebounds per game with 55/31/79 shooting splits, the 6’5 McCune has legitimate college potential as he improves his three point shooting to 38% or higher.
Mason Guffey Mason Guffey 6'5" | SF Taylor County | 2023 State KY , Taylor County – Guffey and McCune are very similar players as they are tall wings with the ability to play on both ends. Mason is a good athlete who impressed enough last summer that the University of Nevada stopped by the gym at Taylor County this past fall and watched him workout. To reach that next level, Guffey will need to continue getting stronger and also needs to improve his three point shooting to closer to 40% than the 30% he’s hovering around now.
