There was tons of talent throughout the event, featuring some of the best available players in the area. Here’s a look at part one of the standouts from the VA programs, looking at five guys from host Fork Union that showed out.
Zakari McQueen | 6’0” PG | Fork Union 2022
McQueen had himself a weekend for a FUMA team that went 2-0 with wins over IMG and Spire, leading the team in scoring in both of the games. The 6’0” guard out of Chesterfield, VA came out with confidence as he shot the basketball very well from deep, hitting 6 three-pointers in their win over IMG, and showed that he can both run a team and make big shots for them against very good teams. He finished with 28 points in the win over Spire and 22 in their win over IMG.
Tye Thompson | 6’1” PG | Fork Union 2022
Thompson was another guard who came out on fire for FUMA in their win over IMG and set the tone for them early before they started to pull away, and he continued his hot shooting in their win over Spire. The former standout at Bishop Ireton is a shifty guard off the bounce who can get to spots and score it from multiple levels, he’s a good shooter with deep range off the catch and off the bounce and he can make plays for others as well. He finished with 15 points in their win over IMG and 18 in their win over Spire.
Kris King | 6’5” WF | Fork Union 2022
King is one of the more versatile players on this Fork Union team, as the 6’5” wing is a do-it-all kind of player who can play and guard multiple positions as well. He’s versatile on the offensive end as he can handle and make plays for himself and others in transition and in the half court, he’s a good finisher around the rim and makes tough shots in the midrange and he’s a good rebounder and defender too. He finished with 17 points in their win over IMG.
Damir Borders | 6’6” PF | Fork Union 2022
Borders is the youngest player on this FUMA team, but he has as much potential as anyone on the group and another year to develop if he chooses to. The 6’6” forward is an inside-out threat who can make shots from deep off the catch, is a long and athletic finisher around the rim and he has a ton of potential on the defensive end as well. He did a lot of things in both of their wins and is a player to keep an eye on moving forward for sure.
Xzavier Hawkins | 6’9” C | Fork Union 2022
Hawkins is a walking testament to what FUMA can do with a prospect, as he has completely transformed his body and cut a lot of weight while also adding muscle making him more explosive and more of a bully in the paint as well. He can finish above the rim and has good touch over the shoulders, he rebounds well and defends the paint and he is an intimidating presence as well. He dominated in the paint on both ends to help them win both of their games this weekend.
