As the postseason nears for Class A boys basketball I thought it would be a good idea to highlight some "under the radar" players to look out for. These athletes are good hoopers who contribute to their team greatly, but you might just not hear about them enough.

[player_tooltip player_id="1135490" first="Zunekia" last="McGill"] (Fargo South senior) 13ppg 5.7rpg 2.2spg

This Fargo South guard that they call "Diamond" is as shifty and fearless as they come. McGill is the type of player that is always in attack mode no matter who stands in his way. If you ask him to hit a shot from three, pick pocket his defender for a fast break, or soar into the air for a dunk, he will with pleasure. With the playoffs coming up and the Bruins on the bottom half of the standings Zunekia will be a key component in propelling them into the tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="1385223" first="Foday" last="Sheriff"] (West Fargo senior) 15.9ppg 7.9rpg FG Per. 57.2% 3FG Per. 38.2%

Senior [player_tooltip player_id="1385223" first="Foday" last="Sheriff"] has been a welcoming surprise for the Packers this season and although I’ve mentioned him a few times, I believe it hasn’t be enough. The forward is currently West Fargo’s highest leading scorer and he is doing it at an efficient rate from inside and beyond the arc. Sheriff is also at the top in rebounds and blocks per game on this defending State champion team. A few notable games that Foday has had include 32 points/8 rebounds at Davies, and 25 points/3 blocks against North.

[player_tooltip player_id="1133224" first="Zander" last="Newton"] (West Fargo Sheyenne senior) 5.7ppg 7.2rpg 1.9apg

Although you most likely won’t see Sheyenne forward [player_tooltip player_id="1133224" first="Zander" last="Newton"] dropping 30 points in a game, he will be doing the dirty work. This Mustang is a workhorse when rebounding on both ends of the floor and has a knack for going to get the ball. From the times I’ve watched Zander he has always been active around the rim seeming to put back as many missed shots as he could. I would also like to mention that the senior has had a handful of games with 10+ rebounds this season, not an easy feat. This level of effort and hustle will go far as the Sheyenne Mustangs look to make a run in the playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1161524" first="Daniel" last="Yorke"] (Fargo Davies sophomore) 3.9ppg 1.8apg FG Per. 55%

He may only be a sophomore, but [player_tooltip player_id="1161524" first="Daniel" last="Yorke"] doesn’t back down from competition. The Davies guard has been a solid player off the bench this season, scoring the ball at an efficient rate and finding open teammates. Yorke has no problem driving into the lane for a tough finish or shooting it from the mid-range. Be on the lookout for this kid, because sooner rather than later he will be a reoccurring name.
