Fargo, ND - Coming into this game the Eagles had a 16-2 record and they are ranked #2 in the most current media polls. The red-hot Spartans came into today with an 11-7 record. North has had some changes in their coaching staff but they have not missed a beat and the Spartans are fresh off big wins over West Fargo Sheyenne and West Fargo. North and Davies played earlier in the year and Davies won 99-90. In that game, [player_tooltip player_id="1169136" first="Mason" last="Klabo"] scorched the nets for 45 points and [player_tooltip player_id="1144475" first="Jeremiah" last="Sem"] stuffed the stat sheet and scored a cool 26.

We had a fun game today with this EDC rivalry game. These are two of the most entertaining, athletic, and skilled teams in North Dakota. Read below for scoring leaders, top players, and game notes. I would like to see these squads meet up again at the SHAC in the EDC tournament!

Eagle Scoring Leaders

[player_tooltip player_id="1169136" first="Mason" last="Klabo"] (2025) |6-0 G| - 30 points, 1-2 ft’s, five 3-pointers

[player_tooltip player_id="1167651" first="Max" last="Froslie"] (2023) |6-8 F| - 22 points, 2-2 ft’s, six 3-pointers

[player_tooltip player_id="812229" first="Ian" last="Motschenbacher"] (2022) |6-0 G| - 17 points, 3-6 ft’s

[player_tooltip player_id="1050247" first="Raymond" last="Brown"] (2023) |5-11 G| - 11 points, 3-3 ft’s

Today’s Top

Hustlers - [player_tooltip player_id="1050247" first="Raymond" last="Brown"] was the best hustler today. He plays 100% all the time when he is on the court. Brown never takes a play off. He works extremely hard on defense, scrambles for long rebounds, runs the floor hard, dives on the floor, and takes charges.

Defenders - [player_tooltip player_id="1050247" first="Raymond" last="Brown"] forced turnovers on defense when helping off the ball and stepping in to pick off a pass. He also took a charge. He was on Sem who is one of the best athletes in ND and that is a tough assignment. [player_tooltip player_id="1273987" first="Evan" last="Van Dam"] also had a nice game on the defensive end. He slowed down Zeller the entire game and held the big man to only two points in the first half.

Shooters - [player_tooltip player_id="1169136" first="Mason" last="Klabo"] put on a shooting clinic again in this one. His footwork, reading/coming off screens, and shooting form are super impressive. Klabo can also hit jumpers off the bounce from deep and mid-range. Mason’s shooting game is more like seniors compared to a freshman. This kid can ball! [player_tooltip player_id="1167651" first="Max" last="Froslie"] also belongs in this conversation with 6 three-pointers. Max is 6’8 with long arms and he can shoot over virtually every defender. Froslie spaces the floor, spots up, steps into his shot, and shoots it with a soft release. [player_tooltip player_id="1144475" first="Jeremiah" last="Sem"] should also be in this conversation. With Sem’s athleticism, the opposing team has to give him a bit of room so he doesn’t blow by for easy looks. Jeremiah can get his jumper off whenever he chooses. His elevation is very impressive. Jeremiah is deadly in the pull-up game from deep or mid-range. I really liked the looks of his fake handoff on the perimeter and then he pulled up and drilled the triple. There was no shortage of impressive shooters in this game.

Slashers - [player_tooltip player_id="812229" first="Ian" last="Motschenbacher"] scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half. He is great off the bounce with many moves, change of speeds, and a quick first step. Ian can also score with many different types of finishes, floaters, runners, and short jumpers. His footwork is amazing and his creativity is even better.

Physical Player - [player_tooltip player_id="1144600" first="Carter" last="Zeller"] did not score and put up gaudy numbers like he does most nights but he still had a physical presence in this one. Carter is never afraid of contact and he does not shy away from a collision with an opposing player. In many instances, it is Zeller that is making the initial contact. He is great at rebounding and finishing around the basket. Zeller is also a stout and tough defender.

Game Notes

Fast Starts - The Eagles were impressive tonight out of the gates in both the first and second halves. The Eagles built a 7 point lead in the first and they built a 12 point lead early in the 2nd half. The Spartans did make a comeback in both halves, but it was not enough. I love when teams come out firing and hitting early in the game. It seems to get the players in rhythm and the players going with confidence.

North Resilience - As I said above, North was down early in the game and down big early in the second half. On the road on a late Saturday afternoon, the Spartans easily could have folded but they fought back in both instances. In the first half, North rallied back and even held the lead for a while. Davies hit a 3-pointer at the end of the half to tie the game back up. In the second half, North went down by 12 but came back and got the score within one point. At the end of the day, it was not enough for the Spartans but it was fun to see the fight in the squad from North.

Eagles Ball Movement - I was very impressed with the way Davies moved the ball. Many times they swung the ball around the perimeter, got reversals, and found open shooters. The Eagles are great at penetrating gaps, drawing defenders, and kicking to Eagles that were spotting up. For a team that likes to play fast, they pass the ball very well and have good patience when it is needed.

Davies Execution - Many times tonight the Eagles scored on BLOBs. Personally, I love watching teams that score on BLOBS or SLOBS. Davies was great at hitting cutters for good looks right at the basket. They also ran a sweet BLOB that had [player_tooltip player_id="1169136" first="Mason" last="Klabo"] come off a screen into the corner for a 3-pointer. Impressive execution by Davies.

Emergence of Froslie - [player_tooltip player_id="1167651" first="Max" last="Froslie"] had a big game for Davies. When I watched the Eagles earlier in the year, Froslie was coming off the bench and not getting much burn. I know Davies has lost a couple of players this season, so maybe Froslie just needed a chance. He go it tonight and he scored 22 points for the Eagles. He also offers rebounding and rim protection.

Freshmen Talent - We had two talented teams on the court today and two of the best players were freshmen. How is that possible, two EDC schools have 9th graders that are playing well on varsity? [player_tooltip player_id="1169136" first="Mason" last="Klabo"] is not just playing well, he is one of the top players in the entire state. He is on his way to being a First Team All-State selection. [player_tooltip player_id="1167610" first="Matthew" last="Sem"] is only a 9th grader, but he has stuck out in the two games against Davies this season. Sem is a gifted athlete like his older brother. He has been shooting it well from beyond the arc and Matthew plays fearlessly. The future is bright for these two studs!
