It’s state tournament week in Florida.

Today, my focus takes me to Class 6A Region 4. The No. 1 seed is Pembroke Pines Charter with a 23-3 overall record. The Jaguars have one of the best senior rosters in Florida. [player_tooltip player_id="955774" first="Kolby" last="King"], [player_tooltip player_id="1065434" first="Caelum" last="Ethridge"], [player_tooltip player_id="829396" first="Geoffrey" last="Sprouse"], and [player_tooltip player_id="829389" first="Elijah" last="Wyche"] each average in double-figures. The 6-foot-2 King is a St. John’s signee and one of the best players I’ve seen this season. King has another gear in his step when attacking the basket.

The 6-foot-6 Ethridge can spread the floor and shoot the three. I like his rebounding ability as well. Sprouse is an electric guard that can attack the rim. Wyche is a 6-foot-6 and can be dangerous on both ends with his bounce. He is a good defender that can block shots as a main defender or off weak side help. The Jaguars won the 5A state title last season. No. 8 seed Boyd Anderson is 15-7 overall. The Cobras have three scorers in double-figures, including 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1163352" first="William" last="Gray"] (11.8 ppg). 6-foot-4 forward Rudolph Hyppolite is averaging a team-best eight boards per game.

No. 4 seed Mater Academy Charter will face No. 5 seed St. Thomas Aquinas. The Lions are 14-4 overall behind 2026 Alex Constanza. The 6-foot-7 guard/wing is averaging 14.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. 2026 Giovanny Desire is averaging over 11 boards per game. Mater Academy also has two 2026’s (Jayden Joseph/Calvin Russell) averaging in double-figures. Talk about a bright future. On the flip side, St. Thomas Aquinas (19-7) has a pair of terrific seniors in [player_tooltip player_id="955771" first="Andrew" last="Akuchie"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1161400" first="Matthew" last="Cadogan"]. The 6-foot-8 Akuchie is averaging over 15 points and nine boards per game. The Rice commit is terrific off the pick end up from deep. Cadogan is a long 6-foot-6 guard that can use his size and length to attack the basket. James Madison can be a freight train in the lane when he gets moving. Madison is 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="963316" first="Markos" last="Myrtidis"] is quick and can shoot from outside. This is an interesting matchup.

No. 2 seed Martin County will face No. 7 Dillard. The Tigers are 22-4 overall and on a five game winning streak. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1306059" first="Elijah" last="Duval"] is electric in the open floor and plays above the rim. The 6-foot-2 guard is averaging 18 points per game. 6-foot-5 [player_tooltip player_id="829398" first="Ryan" last="Davis"] can score inside and out. The senior forward is averaging over 15 points and nearly 7 boards per game. Dillard could be a surprise at 12-11 overall. 2025 Dwayne Wimbley Jr. (13.2 ppg) and 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055711" first="Jordyn" last="Kee"] (12 ppg) have an immense amount of talent. Dillard could be a tough out in round one.

No. 3 seed North Miami will face No. 6 seed Dwyer. The Pioneers are 22-4 overall. North Miami is a well-balanced team with six players averaging in double-figures. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955795" first="Gabriel" last="Gaspard"] leads the way with 14.9 points per game. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1164250" first="Derrick" last="Edouard"] is averaging 13.6 points per game while making a team-best 62 3-pointers. 6-foot-5 [player_tooltip player_id="709252" first="Jermaine" last="Freeman"] III is a versatile player that can score and rebound off the bounce. Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1065430" first="Rick" last="Daniels"] can score at the rim and dish it out (6.3 apg). The Panthers are 20-3 behind superstar [player_tooltip player_id="962569" first="Kyle" last="McNeal"]. The 6-foot-3 junior is averaging 15.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. McNeal might be the most athletic player in this field. 6-foot-5 wing Blake Wilson and 6-foot-4 forward [player_tooltip player_id="1161408" first="Juwan" last="Dawes"] each average in double-figures. This should be a good one.
