It’s state tournament week in Florida.

Today, my focus is on Class 2A Region 4. The No. 1 seed is Sagemont out of Weston. The Lions are 21-6 under head coach David Roe.

Sagemont will face No. 8 seed Atlantic Christian. The Lions have a terrific guard in 6-foot-3 [player_tooltip player_id="1161407" first="Adrian" last="Cruz"]. Cruz has essentially averaged north of 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists this season. 2023’s [player_tooltip player_id="963317" first="Ashton" last="Smith"] and Cameron Gibson are legitimate three-level scorers. Both players are quick and can score in transition. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="962452" first="Tynan" last="Becker"] (6’7) is a versatile scorer and defender given his length and athleticism. Becker can play above the rim and has a solid perimeter shot. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065488" first="Nedas" last="Zukauskas"] (6’9) can stretch the floor and score off the dribble. Atlantic Christian comes in at 12-5 overall. Per its roster, the Sharks only have one listed senior.

No. 4 seed Lake Worth Christian will face No. 5 seed Highlands Christian. Lake Worth Christian comes into this game having won eleven in a row and are 18-7 overall. Freshman guard Landen Harwood could be a watch here with his ability to shoot the three. Harwood hit seven 3-pointers in a game against Donna Klein Jewish Academy earlier this season. Highlands Christian is 13-15 overall. 6-foot-5 senior captain Justin Gaten is a watch for the Knights. Highlands Christian has some size, including a pair of 6-foot-8 players in Fred Carter and Jareal Holston Jr.

No. 2 seed Morningside Academy will face No. 7 seed Miami Christian. The Eagles out of Port St. Lucie have won 20 games behind 2022 Damon Leigh (24.4 ppg/8.5 rpg/7.6 apg). Overall, the 6-foot-3 guard has shot an impressive 68 percent from the field. In addition, 2022’s Caden Holland and [player_tooltip player_id="1161421" first="Mitchely" last="Kercy"] each average in double-figures. Kercy is a big prospect at 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds. The 6-foot-4 Holland is averaging 10.8 boards per game. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1310899" first="Darious" last="Moore"] II is also in double figures (12.7 ppg). 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1295936" first="Damon" last="Folds"] is second on the team in assists (5.2 apg) and steals (3.2 spg) per game. Miami Christian has won three in a row and are 11-13 overall. 2022’s Sadiq Abdullahi and Martin Garza lead the way in scoring. Both players have some size at 6-foot-3. 6-foot-5 Gabriel Garza can score and is a good rim protector.

No. 3 seed True North Classical Academy will face No. 6 seed Sheridan Hills Christian. The Titans out of Miami are 13-9 overall. 2026 Jasien Lopez leads the team in points (29.9), rebounds (8.2 rpg), assists (4.8 apg) and steals (4.7 spg) per game. Boosie Swan is averaging over 18 points per contest. The Sharks out of Hollywood are 20-5 overall. 2024 Isaiah Renaud leads the way with 25.3 points and nine boards per game. The 6-foot-4 Renaud has some quickness and bounce in his repertoire. Both Daniel and Dominique Brutus are solid prospects that can rebound (7 rpg).
