I headed over to Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons to watch No. 3 seed Hallandale Beach take on No. 2 seed University School in the 4A-14 semifinals. The Sharks used a 23-7 third quarter to pull away and win 69-54.

Standouts:

Chanon Frye - University School

I thought 2023 Chanon Frye was the best player on the floor. The 6-foot-5 forward had great touch on his shot and finished with 20 points. Moreover, he hit two 3-pointers. Frye scored on all three levels. I thought he moved well in open space when presented with opportunities at the rim. Moreover, Frye’s length and athleticism gave him an edge in these instances. In addition, he has the frame to be a reliable rebounder. I also like his vision and court awareness as a passer. Overall, he is a well-rounded player. Frye came into the game averaging 11 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Anthony Rondon - University School

2022 Anthony Rondon did a great job on the glass. The 6-foot-8 forward/center had at least eight rebounds and 14 points. Rondon did a ton of damage right around the basket on both ends. Offensively, he has plenty of length and size to go right back up and score. On the other end, his natural frame will result in routine rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="709231" first="Anthony" last="Floyd"] - Hallandale Beach

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709231" first="Anthony" last="Floyd"] finished with a team-high 14 points and a pair of steals. The 5-foot-9 guard is quick in space and can switch the ball into either hand when driving to the basket. I like his ability to finish despite his height. Floyd has quick hands and did a nice job on perimeter defense. He came into the game averaging a team-best 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.

Issac Harney - Hallandale Beach

2022 Issac Harney did a nice job on the offensive end for the Chargers. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard hit a pair of corner 3-pointers and finished with nine points. One of his buckets was a strong move to the basket. I think his outside shooting and inside frame gives him scoring versatility. Harney came into the game averaging 12.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="829495" first="Kareem" last="Barnett"] - Hallandale Beach

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829495" first="Kareem" last="Barnett"] has a great dribble and stride when attacking the basket. The 6-foot-3 combo guard can turn a corner and burst into the lane on drives. I thought Barnett made a couple of nice baskets off dribble penetration. He stayed aggressive throughout and finished with 11 points. He came into the game averaging 7.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1053913" first="Julian" last="Granville"] - University School

2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1053913" first="Julian" last="Granville"] is a point guard with good size. At 6-foot-3, I think Granville can be an effective player when you factor in his athleticism. He finished with eight points. The Sharks also have a pair of good seniors in [player_tooltip player_id="546183" first="Jabral" last="Ray"] and Kailon Nichols. Both guards finished with seven and nine points, respectively. I like the Sharks’ depth on the perimeter.
