4A-14: Cardinal Gibbons vs. North Miami Beach

<p>I headed over to Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons to watch the host Chiefs take on North Miami Beach. No.1 seed Cardinal Gibbons took care of business with a 87-57 victory. The Chiefs move on to the district championship where they will face No. 2 seed University School.</p> <p>Standouts:</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1055708" first="Casey" last="Etienne"] Jr. - Cardinal Gibbons</p> <p>2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055708" first="Casey" last="Etienne"] Jr. finished with 17 points in the victory. The 6-foot-3 guard is ultra quick in open space and did a great job attacking the basket. Etienne Jr. has the body to finish in traffic with either hand. He won a state championship on the football field this past season.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1376292" first="CALEB" last="ALCINEUS"] - Cardinal Gibbons</p> <p>2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1376292" first="CALEB" last="ALCINEUS"] has a bright future. Alcineus is a 6-foot-5 forward with long arms that can move in the open floor. I thought his length and quickness was evident on the offensive end. Alcineus finished with team-high 20 points. He put down a nice slam for one of his buckets.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="829502" first="Tyrieke" last="Sterile"] - North Miami Beach</p> <p>2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829502" first="Tyrieke" last="Sterile"] finished with a game-high 22 points and hit three 3-pointers. I thought there was a stretch in the first quarter where Sterile was the best player on the floor. The 6-foot-1 guard scored from all three levels and was aggressive attacking the rim. A few more connections on the free-throw line and Sterile could have had 25 or more points. He came into the game averaging 18.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.</p> <p>Kaseam Purkiss - North Miami Beach</p> <p>2022 Kaseam Purkiss finished with eight points and a 3-pointer. The 5-foot-10 guard is quick and did a good job from the free-throw line. Purkiss came into the night averaging 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1301716" first="Marcus" last="Perrier"] - Cardinal Gibbons</p> <p>The future is bright at Cardinal Gibbons with another freshman in [player_tooltip player_id="1301716" first="Marcus" last="Perrier"]. The 6-foot-2 forward finished with 13 points. Perrier did a nice job scoring around the basket and in transition. I thought he did a nice job finding his spot in the lane and getting to the rim. Overall, he has a nice level of athleticism.</p> <p>Colton Heinrich - Cardinal Gibbons</p> <p>2024 Colton Heinrich looks like he could take some snaps on Cardinal Gibbons’ football team (see below). The 6-foot-4 power forward finished with 12 points and was effective in the lane using his power. Heinrich has the upper body to hold his ground on defense and grab rebounds in the paint. He also moves pretty well for a kid with his size. Upon further research, Heinrich is a tight end/wide receiver at 215 pounds. He holds a 4.57 GPA. This kid likely has a bright future in either sport.</p> <p>Jayden Owens - Cardinal Gibbons</p> <p>2023 Jayden Owens has a good shot from outside. The 5-foot-10 guard hit a pair of 3-pointers. Owens gives Cardinal Gibbons a reliable perimeter threat at any moment.
