Last weekend, Washington Prep High School played host to a one day showcase on Saturday 1/22. The event featured some solid talent and good teams. I was able to attend the event and here's a quick look at some of the top standouts that I saw.

1. Mykele Mundy - Dorsey 2022

Mundy has a very strong slashing game. He's comfortable as the ball-handler in the halfcort and making his way to the rim. He has good body control; he can finish strong through traffic. He can also draw fouls and get himself to the free-throw line. Solid euro-step to the rim. He's quick in transition too; he sprints out past the defense and can finish on the break. Good vision in the halfcourt; can find teammates around the rim. Good rebounder on the offensive end; strong two-handed rebounds.

2. Chase Walker - Burroughs 2022

Walker looks to finish strong at the rim. In the game I saw, he had a very nice poster dunk. He can handle the ball in transition and he can finish on the break. He's comfortable putting the ball on the floor in the halfcourt. He has a solid feel around the rim, but he also has consistent shooting range out the three-point line. He also stood out defensively, he has quick hands and he forces turnovers that lead to transition scoring opportunities.

3. Jayden Barnes - Garfield 2024

Barnes stood out the most to me for his playmaking ability. He has very good court vision in the halfcourt. He can draw the defense in with his dribble drives and find open teammates. He can pick apart the defense with his on-point passes. He has a solid scoring ability as well. He's quick off the dribble and he can get to the rim. Able to draw contact and get to the free-throw line. He's a very good ball-handler who can dribble under defensive pressure. Has a little runner in the lane.

4. Robert Cooks - Washington Prep 2023

Cooks is a player I've seen before and what really stood out to me this time around was his continued development in his playmaking game. When I saw him play almost two years ago, he looked more comfortable as a scorer. Now, he's become a very good passer in transition, and in halfcourt sets, he can drive and dish teammates around the rim. His ball-handling is solid and he gets out in transition as the primary ball-handler.
