C.J. Luster C.J. Luster 6'3" | CG TACA Storm | 2022 State TX 2022 6’3 TACA Storm
CJ is a sharp shooting guard who thrives at spacing the floor and being a consistent floor spacing option for his team. He thrives as a set shooter and is great at quickly getting his feet set and getting his hands ready. He is shooting 54% from beyond the arc on the season, a true testament to his ability to knock down shots and also his shot selection. As an active ball handler, he is great at staying calm even as he begins to see double teams thrown at him. He can calmly back out of trouble and make the right pass to pick the defense apart. I was most impressed with his calmness and ability to shoot off the dribble. He never seems rushed or sped up, even as he is turning a corner and rising up in the midrange or beyond the arc.
I loved Luster’s willingness to fight on the inside, especially on the glass. Being one of the bigger athletes on his team he is often tasked with guarding bigger forwards on the glass and sometimes on the block. He has great awareness and knows how to seal off a defender on a box out. He possesses great length in his arms which should translate over to the next level very well, and is always something coaches look at at the next level. I was blown away with his on court basketball IQ, he always seemed to make the right reads in transition with passes ahead and always knew how to attack the weak spots in the defenses. His moves very well without the basketball, and never is crowding the ball handler rather working to get open.
Xavier Owens Xavier Owens 6'5" | SF Grace Christian Academy | 2022 State TX 2022 6’5 Klein Cain High School
Xavier is a special combo guard with all the tools to become extremely deadly at the next level. He has an impressive frame paired with long arms and fluid mobility. He is agile with a live dribble and can split defenders and make crazy passes out to his shooters when the defense collapses. He is a freak athlete as well, he has a very impressive vertical and has all the tools to throw down some impressive dunks. His ability to finish against high level paint defenders really stood out, he was able to adjust his shot angle and routinely complete tough plays around the rim. I would call him already an elite scorer due to his efficiency to score from all three levels already.
He is a consistent shooter which is special for someone with his size and his knack for finishing in the paint. He makes defenders look silly by getting to his shot off the dribble, after they are sitting back looking to take away his driving lanes. He has a reliable ability to shoot off the catch and can space the floor if paired with a ball dominant point guard. He does not seem like the type of player to dominate the ball unless it is absolutely necessary to go get buckets to win the game. A coach at the next level is getting an aggressive and special prospect that I sure will be keeping my eye on.
Quinten Hupp Quinten Hupp 6'3" | CG Fort Worth Christian | 2022 State TX 2022 6’4 Fort Worth Christian School
Quinten is a smart shooting guard who seems to be plying at a different speed than everyone else he is on the floor with. Whether he is making a smart back door cut on his defender with his back turned, or he is firing an outlet pass ahead to his teammate for an easy look, Hupp always seems to be playing at another level. You can tell he has already had some high level coaching with his ability to think the game through on both ends of the floor, but especially on offense. He is always moving without the basketball, especially as his teammates begin to attack the basket. They all know to get downhill and look for him to be open somewhere on the back side, allowing him to punish teams from beyond the arc. As a set shooter, he is reliable and consistent and seems to hit big shots whenever given time to set his feet and square up.
He is great at using screens to free himself up for an open look and seems to always accurately take what the defense gives him. Whether that means attacking the paint, taking a three pointer or driving hard into the chest of a defender and stopping on a dime for an easy look in the midrange, Hupp can do it all. His consistent motion off the ball will allow him to get free at any level in college, and is a real weapon that will force defenses to focus on taking away his first and second options.
Trey Thompson 2022 6’1 Reagan High School
Trey is a special two way combo guard who was one of the main reason’s Reagan was able to make the championship game. He effected the game in a plethora of ways, whether he was getting steals and going coast to coast, setting up his back court running mate Jackson Adams (2022) for open looks or getting to his shot beyond the arc or in the mid-range. He is a crafty finisher at the rim and knows how to contort his body to avoid contact. He has a nice touch floater that he can get over taller defenders. His ability to create offense for his young forwards has really kept Reagan alive and his aggressiveness on the defensive end is why they win games. He is currently averaging almost three steals per game at 2.7! He has a real nose for the ball, and seems to always know when to jump the passing lanes and jump start the fast break. I am excited to see how far Reagan can go with this special senior back court they have. Reagan is currently undefeated in district play and boasts a 25-4 record at this point in the season, and it is all mainly due to the efficiency of Adams and Thompson.
Colby Rasberry 2022 6’1 Cypress Ranch High School
Colby is an aggressive combo guard who can do it all on offense. He has great court vision and awareness, he always seems to make the right read in transition and in the half court to find cutting teammates or open shooters on the back side after he attacked the basket. He has good size which allows him to get downhill and finish in the lane with some consistency. He has good overall strength as I saw him able to finish off a couple and-1 opportunities in the paint. Rasberry also can space the floor and knock down open shots when the defense gives him time to set his feet. I would like to see him get more consistent with his ability to score off the dribble however, especially in the midrange.
