Northview and Grand Rapids Christian matched up on Tuesday night in one of the most anticipated games to date this season. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 11-0 lead thanks to [player_tooltip player_id="787685" first="Kyler" last="Vanderjagt"] and [player_tooltip player_id="983528" first="Calvin" last="Hyde"]. That theme continued throughout the evening as Hyde and Vanderjagt combined for 34 points to lead Northview to a 64-51 win over Christian. Northview improves to 5-0 (1-0 OK White), while Christian falls to 4-2 (0-1 OK White).

[player_tooltip player_id="983528" first="Calvin" last="Hyde"] Shows Out
The senior big man played the best, most complete game that I’ve seen from him in my three years of covering Northview. He played with confidence, finished layups through contact, showed good footwork, and cleaned up the glass on both ends of the court. It was clear that Northview was intent on feeding Calvin the ball, which Clavin embraced and made the most out of the opportunity that was given to him. The sky’s the limit for Northview when they get this type of performance from it’s big man.

Yet after Kyler, Northview can get 10-15 points from five-six other guys on any given night. [player_tooltip player_id="864018" first="Jalen" last="Charity"] (7 points), [player_tooltip player_id="1111924" first="EJ" last="Ryans"] (10 points), [player_tooltip player_id="1068141" first="Grant" last="George"] (8 points) and [player_tooltip player_id="987644" first="Tyran" last="Thomas"] (5 points) all played within themselves on Tuesday night, and took and made the shots that were presented to them. The saying goes “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” and this Northview team might be the perfect example of that.

Delon McCloud Flashes Scoring Ability
Northview’s length and athleticism presents a lot of challenges for teams offensively as they usually leave no shot uncontested in the halfcourt. Delon McCloud was able to penetrate the Northview defense on several drives, converting high percentage looks in the paint and often through contact. Delon also knocked down a triple and found his teammates on kickouts to the perimeter.
