Surprise Performances from Idaho: Part 1

<p>Here at Prep Network, I am tasked with the difficult challenge of attempting to recognize, report, and react to quality high school basketball performances from across the state. While I know there are people in the world who think that this is no tall task (I’m looking at you, former collegiate teammate who heard I was from Idaho and asked what I liked about Des Moines), Idaho is a ridiculously large state in terms of area, and the population boom has brought a lot of great new talent to the area as well (and inflated house prices, gas prices, grocery prices...). In all, as I watch a lot of these games, I am often surprised by great performances from players that I haven’t heard of until watching a game. Continue reading for a look at a few surprise performances I saw recently in the great state of Idaho.</p> <p><strong>Lapwai vs. Genesee:</strong> Lapwai got out to an early lead against Genesee recently and only proceeded to increase that margin until the final buzzer sounded. Lapwai nearly put up 90 points thanks to a combination of their fast-paced offense, and incredibly suffocating defense which forces offensive players into making poor decisions and coughing up turnovers. Lapwai was led by a really solid 22-point performance from [player_tooltip player_id="969760" first="Kross" last="Taylor"] who showed that he could turn defense into offense while also knocking down outside shots as well. [player_tooltip player_id="1171620" first="Kase" last="Wynott"] added 16 points on a strong shooting night as well and contributed many assists. [player_tooltip player_id="969572" first="AJ" last="Ellenwood"] also added 11 points as Lapwai led a balanced scoring attack. Genesee struggled to score throughout the majority of the night, but Cameron Meyer was the lone leader with 9 points.</p> <p><strong>Logos-Moscow vs. Kamiah:</strong> Logos-Moscow was able to pull off a much-needed win over Kamiah recently. Logos-Moscow was able outlast Kamiah in the final minutes of the game and showed overall poise and high basketball IQ while successfully managing the end of the game. Logos-Moscow was led by a 17 point performance from Roman Nuttbrock thanks in large part to his 4 three-pointers that he knocked down throughout the contest. Nuttbrock also got help from Will Casebolt scoring 9 points. Kamiah put up a great effort thanks to 16 points from Everett Skinner as he scored well from inside the paint and from the three-point line. Kavan Mercer added 14 points and David Kludt finished off double-digit scorers with 13 points on the night.</p>
