Suffolk Standouts

<p>We took in some section xi Suffolk county games these last few weeks. Here are some standouts.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1195583" first="Preston" last="Edmead"]       5”10    2024         Deer Park</strong></p> <p>Has been playing varsity since the eight grade. Explosive getting into the lane. Can finish with either hand. Moves his feet defensively,  hard to get by. Displays the ability to change speed and direction by either going downhill or craftiness with the ball. Very poised and confident with the ball. Has deep range. One particular break he went behind his back between his legs finishing with a reverse layup. Do I need to say more!</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1047075" first="Kyle" last="Jefferson"]       6”0      2022      Deer Park</strong></p> <p>One of the most improved players on the Island. The talent was always there we just didn’t see enough of him because of Covid. Quick hands on guarding the ball. Has a nice shot fake and quick first step to the rim. Has unlimited deep range. <br /> <br /> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1203952" first="Malachi" last="Moore"]      6”3       2023       Copiague</strong></p> <p>Coach uses him to guard best player. Extra bonus is he can guard multiple positions. Has deadly step back jumper. Excellent mid range pull up off the bounce. Uses his length to either block or rebound the ball. A player who can grab it off the glass lead the break and then finish on his own or set up a teammate.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1125339" first="Mike" last="Gitz"]            6”2           2023      Commack</strong></p> <p>Old school player moving without the ball. Finds the open spots. Cuts hard going to the basket or getting to the three point line. Initiates contact at the rim or off his jumper. Can shoot the three. Has put up some big scoring numbers for the Cougars.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1360144" first="Nick" last="Waga"]          6”1         2024        Commack</strong></p> <p>Strong bodied guard. Physical player with the ball. Excellent handle has a nice hesitation dribble. Understands the importance of a pull up jumper on the break or in the half court. Explosive turning the corner and has the vision for dump offs, inside.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1136572" first="Xavier" last="Lewis"]       5”9        2022         Half Hallow Hills East</strong></p> <p>Outstanding scorer of the ball. Can drain deep threes. Quick getting into the lane possesses a nice floater. But his mid range game is terrific. He elevates on his jumper and is very fluid with his release. He is fast north-south, but always seems to put it in to another gear to go even faster. Without being out of control.</p> <p><strong>Zatai Townsend      6”0       2022       Brentwood</strong></p> <p>As good as anyone guarding the ball. Quick hands and feet. Understands ball you man. Excellent elevation and the ball comes out of the hand very smooth. Has a quick release.Can handle the ball with either hand. Crafty passer. Excellent skill set. Can flush it in the open floor or in the half court. A senior who must be on college radars sooner then later.
