SANTA ANA, Ca—In the game of the day, Harvard-Westlake would hold off a feisty Crean Lutheran 76-68. Crean Lutheran was playing without their standout point guard Darryl Morris, but super sophomore Vyctorious Miller and Rui Han picked up the slack. However, it would not be enough as Harvard-Westlake used a balanced attack as they were led by the sharpshooting junior [player_tooltip player_id="992481" first="Brady" last="Dunlap"] (pictured) with 20-points.

Joel’s Take: One of the better senior guards in Southern California is Thrower. The physical combo-guard plays a tenacious game at both ends. He is tough to deal with off the bounce as he uses his solid quickness and strength to get to the rim. He can finish through contact and did an excellent job of getting to the free-throw line (11-of-14). He is a natural leader as well and he stuffed the staff sheet in the areas of rebounding (8) and assists (5).

On the Rise

Trent Perry (Harvard-Westlake)

2024, PG, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds

Joel’s Take: Perry got off to a relatively slow start, but in the 2nd half he was the engine behind Harvard-Westlake’s excellent play. The sophomore guard has a nice frame with good length and his quickness and speed are ideal for the D1 level. He was relentless off the bounce finishing in traffic a couple of times and he drained a couple of 3s, as he showed a nice stroke from deep.

Joel’s Take: Dunlap (pictured) has a textbook offensive game. He is a straight-line athlete who possesses an advanced pull-up game—not surprising considering his father (Jeff Dunlap) is a seasoned college coach. His jump shot is pure off the bounce or off the bounce and he is always off-balance. He dropped in an ultra-efficient 20-point game as he went from 8-of-13 fga, including 4-of-5 from the 3-point line. Defensively, he needs to improve his lateral quickness to better his development as a perimeter defender.

Stepping up

Rui Han (Crean Lutheran)

2022, G, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds

Joel’s Take: With sophomore stud Darrell Morris out of the game, Han had to step up—and he certainly did. His competitiveness and fearless play were exhibited throughout as he did a nice job attacking off the bounce and either getting to the rim or distributing to an open teammate. He to had an efficient outing as he went 8-of-13 from the field, most of which within 10-feet of the basket.
