In what looked like it might be a blowout early, then a comeback win, the MCS Elephants squeezed out a tough 60-58 victory on the road.

MCS jumped on Lincoln early with the help of [player_tooltip player_id="1187956" first="Aasim" last="Burton"] (6’2 G 2024/ cover picture). The sophomore combo guard scored 8 of the team’s 21 first quarter points, plus another 4 in the second quarter, as the Elephants got ahead by as many as 15 points. He finished the game with 20 points and a couple threes, including two layups and clutch free throws in the fourth quarter.

The mid-second and third quarters belonged to Nizzy aka [player_tooltip player_id="1185939" first="Rashan" last="Locke-Hicks"] (5’5 G 2023) from Lincoln. Nizzy deflected passes and forced turnovers that resulted in layups on the other end and knocked down multiple threes over that stretch, giving the Railsplitters the lead.. He led all scorers in the game with 22 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="991322" first="Trent" last="Middleton"] Jr. (6’3 G 2022) was instrumental for MCS throughout the contest. The two-way guard was flying around defensively getting deflections and steals. Two of his three treys came in the third quarter as his team was surging back after falling behind. His leadership and aggression on both ends kept them in the mix. Trent had 16 points total.

While Nizzy made plays on-ball and Lincoln’s other veterans struggled to get going, Naseem Wright (6’6 W 2024) had his coming out party. He was second on his team with 16 points, 11 of which came during that 2nd-to-third quarter stretch. Without flinching and with the game on the line, Naseem drained a three to tie things up with 8.3 seconds left.

[player_tooltip player_id="991197" first="Jaheim" last="Bethea"] (6’2 G 2022) had 6 points and the most important bucket came immediately after Wright’s three. He imbounded the ball and drove the length of the court then laid the ball in to steal the win.
