January Recap: 2023 Evaluations

We’re learning new things about the 2023 class in this area each time we step foot in the gym. Here are some notes from the past month. 

Elijah Adegbenro | forward | Potomac Falls (VA)

Adegbenro sets the tone with a consistently high effort level. One thing you'll notice is that he is always sprinting down the floor at full speed in transition. 

Tristan Alvarez | guard | Centreville (VA)

Alvarez is one of the quicker guards you'll find. Good luck finding someone that can contain him off the dribble. 

Donovan Bass Donovan Bass 6'1" | PG Hayfield | 2023 State VA | guard | West Potomac (VA)

Bass is ambidextrous. A good trait to have for someone who handles the ball, scores and distributes as well as he does. Bass is also a solid all-around defender. 

Doyle Brown Doyle Brown 6'1" | SG Bethel | 2024 State VA | guard | Centreville (VA)

Brown has quickly established a rep as one of the more dangerous shooters in the area. He's flirted with 30-point outings multiple times this year. 

Nader Chirchi | forward | Edison (VA)

Chirchi is a forceful paint presence for the Eagles. He is a difference-maker on both ends who scores, rebounds, and also protects the lane.  

Margad Choijilsuren | guard | Fairfax (VA)

Choijilsuren is a fundamentally-sound assassin. He has the size and shooting that make you want to stay attached, but he will pump fake you to death and that can get frustrating. 

DeShawn Harris-Smith DeShawn Harris-Smith 6'5" | SF Paul VI | 2023 State #53 Nation VA | guard | Paul VI (VA)

You might want to stop Harris-Smith before he gets any type of momentum toward the basket. He's been aggressively hunting paint touches and converting with regularity in traffic. 

Corwin Holland | guard | St. Mary’s Ryken (MD)

Holland is a good athlete who is best in the open court. He had an impressive dunk off the vert in transition. One of the more athletic plays we've seen this month. 

David King | forward | Hayfield (VA)

King has been one of the more valuable players for his team this season. He has some of the best hands you'll find and has a knack for scoring almost every time he gets it around the basket. 

Thomas McCoy | guard | Centreville (VA)

McCoy is a nice prospect with size and a solid skill base. He is crafty and efficient with the ball. 

Matin Perdue | forward | Independence (VA)

Perdue is a mid-post technician. He has a nice arsenal of go-to moves from 15-feet and in. Perdue also helps clean the glass. 

Christian Robertson | forward | St. Mary’s Ryken (MD)

Robertson brings good physicality to the court for the Knights. He is a good defender who makes hustle plays that help win games.  

Kullen Robinson Kullen Robinson 6'2" | SG Alexandria City | 2023 State VA | guard | West Springfield (VA)

Robinson is a threat to score at all three levels. He shoots with great rotation and that seemingly gives the ball a chance to go in every time it hits the rim. 

Andre Skelin Andre Skelin 6'6" | C Wesley Christian | 2023 KY | forward | St. Mary’s Ryken (MD)

Skelin is a versatile forward who provides floor spacing and physicality. He is active on the boards and knows how to score with either hand around the basket. 

Sam Whitehead | guard | Stone Bridge (VA)

Whitehead is in great shape and this allows him to run all day long. He is a threat from three but is also potent from the in-between areas where he scores with variety. 

Wes Williams | guard | Independence (VA)

Williams has one of the purest jumpers out of anyone on this list. When he shoots, it's straight up and down with the same mechanics every time.
