<p>The year of 2022 is finally upon us, which means we are that much closer to the culmination of the 2021-22 basketball season and the ultimate quest for a state championship in March. As conference play begins to get going in many regions of the state, the best teams are finally beginning to separate themselves from the pack while also proving that they are capable of achieving even more levels of greatness before the end of the season. So, here’s to 2022 and all of the great basketball that has yet to be played. Continue reading for a look at some of the microupdates from recent Idaho action across the Gem State.</p>
<p><strong>Lake City vs. Bishop</strong> <strong>Kelly:</strong> Lake City was able to beat Bishop Kelly after playing their final game of a three day stretch where they played every single day. Lake City struggled throughout the game and Bishop Kelly hoped to knock off one of the top teams in the state, but they were unable to put together enough at the end to steal a victory. Bishop Kelly was led by [player_tooltip player_id="1170291" first="Blake" last="Hawthorne"] scoring 14 points while doing most of his damage in the paint. [player_tooltip player_id="923087" first="Aidan" last="McGarvin"] also added 7 points on a solid shooting night against taller defenders. Lake City was fueled by a game-high 15 points from [player_tooltip player_id="923079" first="Zach" last="Johnson"] along with 7 rebounds on either end of the floor. Johnson showed a really strong defensive game as well thanks to 4 blocks, and [player_tooltip player_id="923077" first="Blake" last="Buchanan"] also added 5 blocks along with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Nathan Hocking rounded out double-digit scorers with 13 points of his own on an efficient shooting night.</p>
<p><strong>Meridian vs. Coeur d’Alene: </strong>Coeur d’Alene walked away with a victory over the defending state champions in a recent tournament game. Meridian struggled offensively and Coeur d’Alene applied so much pressure that Meridian wasn’t able to score 30 points in total. Coeur d’Alene was led by [player_tooltip player_id="921077" first="Cameren" last="Cope"] who scored 12 points at the rim and free throw line while showing his ability to muscle his way to the basket and finish through contact. Cooper Larson added 8 points as well and showed that he could score at will against Meridian. On the other end, Meridian was led by 9 points from Ethan Pearce who was the lone offensive spark throughout the game.</p>
