SPRINGFIELD, MA—Each and every season the Spalding Hoophall Classic is a dream for high school basketball enthusiasts, and this season was no different. In this matchup, Duke-bound [player_tooltip player_id="996913" first="Kyle" last="Filipowski"] exhibited his entire skill set before a national audience. He scored from all three levels, hammered down some thunderous dunks, and dropped off some nifty assists.

[player_tooltip player_id="1062020" first="Jeremiah" last="Dorsey"] (Wilbraham & Monson, MA)

2023, PG, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds

Joel’s take: Dorsey runs the show for Wilbraham & Monson and he does it with aplomb. The junior guard has solid quickness and speed and a tight crossover to get by his defender. While penetrating he handed out an assortment of passes—including some nice drop-off passes and look-ahead dishes. He didn’t convert any jump shots, but his release looks solid and he appears to be on balance as well.

Angel Montes (Life Christian, FL)

2022, SF, 6-foot-6, 225 pounds

Joel’s Take: Montes didn’t have his usual production, but he did show off his attributes that will make him an impactful player at the Division 1 level. It was obvious early on that the length of the Filipowski brothers bothered Montes. However, he used his chiseled physique to drive to the rim as well as snag some impressive rebounds in traffic. In addition, he can create off the dribble, pull-up over the defender, and convert the 3-point shot.

Sean Seymor (Wilbraham & Monson, MA)

2022, SG, 6-4, 180 pounds

Joel’s Take: Seymor was the glue for his team in this tilt with Life Christian. He has a solid frame for the college level and he has a nice-looking stroke. He can shoot off the catch very well and nailed a long-distance 3 in transition that was impressive. Tossing in a couple of slashing drives, gritty rebounds in traffic, translated to a nice outing for Seymor.

Mathew Filipowski (Wilbraham & Monson, MA)

2022, C, 7-foot, 235 pounds

Joel’s Take: Filipowski, who is headed to Harvard, is a large center-type who has long arms and good hands. His footwork is on the come where he showed solid pivot work. His hands were demonstrated by his ability to catch the ball on the block or in transition where he caught a terrific pass from twin brother Kyle for the dunk. Not to mention he took a nice charge as well. However, going forward he needs to continue to work on his feet and balance while operating in the paint as well as the ability to transition from one end to the other.
