The Dennis Gregory Memorial Classic was an example of that with multiple players having big-time performances. Here are some of the top standouts from the Dennis Gregory Memorial Classic.
Tahaad Pettiford Tahaad Pettiford 6'1" | PG Hudson Catholic | 2024 State #27 Nation NJ , 6’0 PG Hudson Catholic 2024
Pettiford put on an absolute show for the Hawks as he dropped a Dennis Gregory Memorial Classic high 40 points. The 6’0 lefty has a tight handle, which he used to beat his defender off the bounce and finish around the rim. Pettiford was also able to create space for himself off the bounce and knocked down several jumpers from distance. He set up the offense for Hudson Catholic in the half court and made plays on the defensive end. Pettiford is a dynamic floor general who is a must-watch whenever he takes the floor.
Dylan Harper Dylan Harper 6'6" | SG Don Bosco Prep | 2024 State #3 Nation NJ , 6’5 SG Don Bosco Prep 2024
Harper was electric in the triple overtime thriller against Hudson Catholic as he had a team-high 34 points. The 6’5 lefty was in attack mode from the opening tip as he was consistently able to get to the rim and draw contact. Harper was not fazed by on-ball pressure and made the Hawks pay for giving him space on the perimeter. He skied for a big block late in regulation, which helped the game go into overtime. Harper is an absolute gamer who will do whatever it takes to help his team win.
Ryan Pettit, 6’2 SG Rutgers Prep 2022
Pettit had a big showing as his play on both ends of the floor helped the Argonauts pull off a huge win over Bergen Catholic. The 6’2 lefty has a smooth release on his jumper and knocked down made several triples during the game. Pettit made good passes in the half court and moved well off the ball to create space for himself. He dove on the floor for loose balls throughout the game and got numerous deflections and steals on defense. Pettit’s ability to bring it at both ends of the floor is something that will help Rutgers Prep make a deep run in the postseason.
Will Richardson Will Richardson 6'2" | PG Bergen Catholic | 2022 State #76 Nation NJ , 6’2 PG Bergen Catholic 2022
Richardson led the Crusaders with a team-high 22 points and played with confidence early in the game. The Fordham commit was aggressive early as he had his team’s first five points and did not mind finishing through contact. Richardson used his handle and quickness to get by his defender. He set his teammates up nicely in the half court and was able to jump passing lanes to get steals. Richardson is a quick point guard prospect who should continue to put up big numbers as the season progresses.
Tarik Bicic, 6’4 SG/SF Rutherford 2023
Bicic was the primary playmaker for Rutherford as the Bulldogs asked him to do a lot on both ends of the floor. The 6’4 wing was at his best attacking the basket where he used his athleticism to finish nicely around the basket. Bicic brought the ball up the floor and ran the offense when he was on the floor. He was disruptive as the point man in Rutherford’s 1-3-1 defense, where he was able to get deflections and cause havoc. Bicic is a versatile wing who should continue to light up the stat sheet as the season progresses.
