Class of 2022 Top 1-5 Breakdown
In this article:
In this article I summarize and discuss the top five ranked players in the Class of 2022. This is a talented group of individuals, and these names are a very good benchmark of how high level this state really is.
1 – Joe Hurlburt Joe Hurlburt 6'10" | PF Enderlin | 2022 State #147 Nation MN (Enderlin)
It should come as no surprise when I say that the Colorado Boulder phenom out of Enderlin can do it all on the basketball court. The 6 foot 11 inch senior has the skills of a guard such as the ability to push the ball up the court, make exceptional passes, shoot from the outside, and efficiently move laterally. Other things that Joe excels at is finishing above the rim, dominating on the boards, and sending shots away on the defensive end. This kid is truly worthy of the number one ranking, and it will be exciting to see where his career moves froward from here.
2 – Treysen Eaglestaff Treysen Eaglestaff 6'5" | SF Bismark | 2022 State ND (Bismarck High)
This University of North Dakota commit has been on another level this season. Whether its going off for 5+ threes in a game, weaving his way toward the rim, pulling up from mid range, finding an open teammate, sending shots away, or picking off the ball for a fast break dunk, this kid really can do it all. I think his game against Bismarck Century where Treysen lit up the floor for 52 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists is a great indicator of the talent that this kid has.
3 – Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND (Beulah)
Sniper, thats the word the comes to mind when I think of Minot State commit Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND . Not only is Trey lethal from the outside, but he’s also a skilled finisher, can find the open man, and is a thief on the defensive end. If I were to leave one piece of advice for teams that have to guard this Beulah Miner, it would be to not let him get hot from beyond the arc.
4 – Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (West Fargo Sheyenne)
When it comes to explosive athletes in the state, senior Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND is near the top of the list. If you’ve seen him play, you have likely witnessed some sort of ferocious slam, pull-up three pointer, high skying rebound, or tough and-1 finish. Nhials stock has only risen since the beginning of this season, and I expect it to continue it’s upward trajectory.
5 – Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND (Fargo Davies)
Davies senior guard Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND is the definition of a crafty guard. Wrapping the ball around his body while on a contest fast break, slicing by defenders in the paint with nice moves, and finding openings in the mid range, all things included in Ian’s bag. Not only is the Eagle good on offense, but he also has great hands on defense that lead to plenty of opportunities for him and his teammates. Be on the lookout for this Northern State commit the rest of the season as he is an entertaining watch.
