The 15th annual Chance Harmon Classic took place this past Saturday in Floyd County, VA with a day full of talented teams both from SWVA and across the state and other states as well. One of my favorite events of the year, the CHC is in remembrance of Chance Harmon, who at 8 years old passed away from a rare cancer and this event honors him while also raising money for child cancer research.

The event brings the whole town out as well as most of western VA, and is a really special day of basketball run by some very good people. There were tons of talented players and great basketball throughout the day, and it was another successful year to help "Give Others a Chance."

Here’s a look at part one of the 2022 standouts from the event.

[player_tooltip player_id="815625" first="Jayson" last="Easton"] | 6’3” WG | James River (Buchanan)

In the first game of the day, James River took it to Carroll County showing why they’re one of the more talented teams in the area, and Easton got off to a fast start and was lights out throughout the game. The 6’3” wing who has recently committed to the University of Lynchburg was hot early hitting 4 threes in the first half, showing good range and the ability to attack closeouts and make plays for others. He finished with 20 points in the win.

Corey Easton | 6’0” PG | James River (Buchanan)

Easton’s twin Corey didn’t have the scoring output that Jayson did, but he looks like he’ll be the x-factor for this group as he ran the show and got them into sets and showed great playmaking ability off the bounce. He’s a true floor general who sets the tone on both ends and was excellent in their press, he showed good shift and the ability to change speeds off the bounce and excellent passing ability and vision. He made plays and while I didn’t have full stats for the game he had to have close to 10 assists on the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1107883" first="Patrick" last="Clevenger"] | 6’5” F | James River (Buchanan)

Another talented scorer on this James River group, Clevenger showed his versatility as he played multiple positions and scored it in a number of different ways. The Roanoke commit is a walking mismatch as he has the size and strength to play in the post and score it over smaller defenders, he can step out and score it on the perimeter and put it on the deck and he can hit the glass for extra opportunities. He finished with a game high 25 points in the win, scoring 14 of them in the second half.

[player_tooltip player_id="815612" first="Walker" last="Andrews"] | 5’11” WG | VES

While VES took a loss to Moravian Prep of North Carolina in the Classic, Andrews continues to show he’s one of the top scorers in the state as he’s been on a tear against a very good schedule and this was yet another impressive performances. The 5’11” two guard got after it on both ends of the floor, showed that he can score it from multiple levels and is a knock down shooter who gets hot quickly and is confident and very competitive. He finished with 27 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in the loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="1217464" first="Conner" last="Tilley"] | 6’4” WF | Lord Botetourt

Tilley is one of the best shooters in the 540, if not in the entire state, and he stepped up big in LB’s matchup against Radford showing good leadership and taking over late in the game. He has good size on the wing, excellent form on his jump shot, good range and a quick release and he’s very confident in his shot. He finished with 19 points in the win, scoring 11 in the second half and had a spurt where he hit 3 big deep balls in a row in the second half when his team really needed him to.

[player_tooltip player_id="815616" first="Ethan" last="Millirons"] | 6’0” PG | Auburn

While Auburn lost in a very close game to an up and coming North Cross group, Millirons showed why he’s one of the best all-around point guards in the state and did a little bit of everything for his team. A strong and skilled guard, the St Thomas Acquinas (NY) guard showed he can create for himself and others both in isolation and especially in the pick-and-roll situations, he made shots from deep consistently and he brought it on both ends of the floor. He finished with 20 points in the loss.
