Then, Friday night featured a battle of two top-75 seniors in Indianapolis with Danville hosting Tri-West. Check out some of the top power forward performers from this week of basketball.
Player Evaluations
Alex Covey Alex Covey 6'6" | C Tri-West | 2022 State IN (Tri-West) – 2022 6’5” PF
Covey is a big post player inside with a ton of strength. He also showed off some good footwork in the lane with his post moves, and he also had nice touch around the rim. On the defensive end of the floor, Covey crashed the glass and came up with two big blocks. All in all, it was a fairly quiet game, but he ended with 5 points and 7 boards.
Tyler Dostin (Danville) – 2022 6’4” PF
Dostin is a big forward on the inside who uses his size and his strength well, as you would expect from a Kent State football commit. He always looks to get to the hole, and he uses his strength and power to go through the post defenders. He also had good touch when finishing at the rim. On the defensive end, Dostin plays very tough defense, and he came up with 5 steals. Dostin ended with a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards, and he will be a huge second option for Danville in the postseason.
Josh Furst Josh Furst 6'6" | C Blackhawk Christian | 2023 State IN (Fort Wayne Blackhawk) – 2023 6’6” PF
Furst is a big forward with a ton of length. He is a good finisher in the lane, and he uses his length and touch to finish his go-to hook shot from the post. Furst always goes strong to the hole and clears out space. He is the type of player who every coach loves due to his aggressiveness on the glass and the fact that he always hustles when he is on the court. Furst ended with 18 points and 8 boards in the loss.
Beau Jacquay (Fort Wayne Dwenger) – 2022 6’5’ PF
Jacquay showed off several impressive post moves around the rim against the bigger Furst in this one. He is strong with the ball, and he can finish well with both hands. He was also able to step out and knock down a three. Jacquay wasn’t as aggressive as I would’ve liked to see him on the glass, but he ended with 14 points to lead the Saints in the win.
Preston Ross Preston Ross 6'8" | PF Bishop Dwenger | 2023 State IN (Fort Wayne Dwenger) – 2023 6’5” PF
Ross is a big forward who is an animal on the defensive end of the floor. He uses his size and length in order to affect shots around the rim as he came up with three blocks and two steals. He also used his strength and aggressiveness to come up with 7 boards.
Jaymen Townsend Jaymen Townsend 6'6" | SF Marion | 2025 State #248 Nation IN (Marion) – 2025 6’5” PF
Townsend is a big freshman with a ton of length, and he used this length well on both ends. He is big on the glass and can handle the ball well. He looks to push the tempo, and he always looks to attack the glass with authority. He has a good amount of strength, and I would expect this to just continue to improve as he grows. Townsend has a ton of potential in his game and he and Metzger are going to be a fun duo to watch next season.
