The inaugural Bob Dandridge MLK Classic took place at Norfolk State University on Martin Luther King Day, and the event featured some of the top teams from across the 757. A well run event at a top notch facility featuring very good talent, it was a big event for the entire community.

Here’s a look at part two of the many 2022 standouts from the event.

Aidan Darrell | 6’4” WG | Green Run

Darrell is a guy who has waited his turn and improved a lot over his time at Green Run, and he showed big time potential in their loss to Kecoughtan. He’s a skilled and athletic wing who can handle the rock and get downhill, he can score it from all three levels and create for himself and others and he’s a fluid athlete who can make plays on both ends of the floor. He finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in the loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="815594" first="DeJuan" last="Campbell"] | 6’1” PG | Kecoughtan

Campbell was his usual dominant self in Kecoughtan’s win over Green Run, as he made plays in every way imaginable and stuffed the stat sheet while running the show and being the leader he naturally is. The Western Carolina commit was great off the bounce getting to spots and finishing in the paint and in the midrange, he rebounded well for his position on both ends and he made great decisions and found his teammates in spots they could succeed. He finished with 24 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds in the win.

Kenny Page | 5’9” PG | Kecoughtan

Page is one of the most underrated seniors on the peninsula, and he showed why as he split time on and off the ball and made plays on both ends. He’s lightning quick and has good length and athleticism, he is shifty off the bounce and gets in the lane well and he just attacks and makes positive plays consistently. He finished with 11 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals in the win.

Derrick Teele | 6’4” WF | Green Run

While Teele has a lot of the same qualities as Darrell, he’s more of a strong and bully type of wing who can mix it up inside and play on the perimeter and get things done in different ways. He’s very strong and can attack downhill and play through contact, he has a very good midrange game with pull-ups and the ability to make tough shots and he can guard multiple positions as well. He finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds in their loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="1241904" first="Sidney" last="Townsend"] | 6’3” CG | Western Branch

While Branch didn’t come away victorious against Menchville, they’re a young team with a lot of talent and Townsend is the senior leader who runs the show for them. He’s able to play on and off the ball and can score it from all three levels, he has good feel and IQ and is a good passer and he knows his game and knows how to get things done on both ends of the floor. He finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in their loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="1107845" first="Dallas" last="Kendall"] | 6’7” PF | Menchville

Kendall is a prospect that prep schools and JUCOs should have on their radar now, because he’s another year or two away from putting it all together and he has a lot of potential moving forward. At 6’7” he’s a long forward with good ball skills as he can put it on the deck and get to spots in the midrange, he can stay in front of wings and still challenge at the rim and he has good looking form on his jumper as well. He finished with 10 points in their win.

Dajon Dawson | 6’1” WG | Lake Taylor

Dawson was big in Lake Taylor’s come from behind win over Woodside, as he made plays in a number of different ways and made big shots down the stretch. The smooth off guard showed he can create off the bounce, he made tough contested shots from multiple levels and he really stepped up in the second half. He was named MVP after finishing with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field and pitching in 4 rebounds.
