Indiana is full of great teams and talented players thus giving the fans incredible matchups every week. Join me, Kyler Staley, every Monday during the season as I preview the 3 Players, 3 Teams, and 3 Matchups to watch for that coming week. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
3 Players
Colin Comer Colin Comer 6'4" | SG Greensburg | 2022 State IN – 6’3 2022 SG – Greensburg: Comer might be one of the more underrated players in all of Southern Indiana. The energetic shooting guard is averaging around 18 ppg and is scoring the ball at a high level right now. Saw him in-person a few weeks ago and was very impressed his outside shooting as he was stepping up and hitting them from deep range. He and the Pirates will go on the road vs Rushville (2/3) and host Jac-Cen-Del (2/5) this week.
A.J. Roseman A.J. Roseman 6'0" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2022 State IN – 6’0 2022 PG – Bishop Chatard: Roseman has been one the best guards in the state this season. This year, he has stepped up and been a high level scorer on a Bishop Chatard team that started off the season 13-0. The explosive guard is starting to get the offers that he has earned from schools such as Holy Cross College, St. Mary of The Woods College, and Franklin College. He and Bishop Chatard have a hit a little mid-season slump having lost their last 3 games but have a chance to get back on track when they host Roncalli on 2/3.
Flory Bidunga Flory Bidunga 6'9" | C Kokomo | 2024 State #7 Nation IN – 6’10 2024 C – Kokomo: Bidunga might be one of the best kept secrets in all of Indiana. He is a raw talent as he has only been playing completive basketball for about 3 years now but has elite athleticism, high motor, and plays tough, aggressive defense. High level rebounder as well as he was averaging around 11 rpg around Christmas time. Does not have any significant offers right now but the upside for this guy is sky high. He and Kokomo have a huge with home game vs Indianapolis Tech (2/3).
3 Teams
Chesterton (4A): As of where it stands right now, the Chesterton Trojans are the best team in 4A. Standing at 16-0, they have just been so dominate having had only one game that they have not scored above 50 pts. Not hard to see why they have been so good this year with the experience of the upperclassman being led by senior lead guard Travis Grayson Travis Grayson 5'10" | PG Chesterton | 2022 State IN . Couple of solid underclassman like Tyler Parrish Tyler Parrish 6'3" | SG Chesterton | 2024 State IN and Justin Sims Justin Sims 6'6" | PF Chesterton | 2024 State IN as well. Very curios to see if Chesterton can keep this up as they have two tough games vs Michigan City (2/3) and Warsaw (2/5) on tap this week.
Park Tudor (2A): This Park Tudor team has been on a roll as of late. After starting the season 4-4, the Panthers have won their last 4 games. At the 2A level, it is safe to say that they are one of the more talented teams with guys like Jordan Bowles Jordan Bowles 6'1" | PG Park Tudor | 2022 State IN , C.J. Thompson C.J. Thompson 5'11" | PG Park Tudor | 2022 IN , Jermaine Coleman Jermaine Coleman 6'7" | SF Park Tudor | 2023 State IN , Bryce Petty Bryce Petty 6'1" | PG Park Tudor | 2023 State IN , and more making up their roster. Come post-season time, this team will be one to watch for. Stacked week of games for them this week as they play Heritage Christian (1/31), Indianapolis International (2/3), and Brebeuf Jesuit (2/5).
Jac-Cen-Del (1A): Jac-Cen-Del is a sneaky good team to watch for in the 1A level for the rest of the season. Right now they are 10-4 and are the #16th ranked team as of this writing. Solid wins over South Ripley, South Decatur, Southwestern (Hanover), and Waldron. Should beat Morristown easily this week but the game to watch for them is the road game vs Greensburg. Expect senior guard Wyatt Day Wyatt Day 5'11" | PG Jac-Cen-Del | 2022 IN to have a great week as well.
3 Matchups
Lawrence North (4A) at Carmel (4A) – Feb 3rd, 7:30pm: All eyes are going to be locked on this one on 2/3. The last time these two faced off was the Class 4A State Championship game last season which saw Carmel defeat Lawrence North 51-46 in OT. This season, Carmel returned pretty much everybody from last season’s team with Lawrence North losing a ton from last year. The good news is, Lawrence North still have Chris Gunn Chris Gunn 6'5" | SG Lawrence North | 2022 State #114 Nation IN , who is one of the best players in the state. However, don’t think Gunn will be enough to get past Peter Suder Peter Suder 6'5" | SG Carmel | 2022 State #227 Nation IN , Sam Orme Sam Orme 6'9" | SF Carmel | 2023 State #196 Nation IN , and Charlie Williams Charlie Williams 6'10" | PF Carmel | 2022 State #220 Nation IN . My pick is Carmel here.
Peru (3A) at Argos (1A) – Feb 5th, 7:30pm: This should be a fun one. Peru has been one of the best teams in all of 3A sitting at a 12-1 record and on the other side, Argos has been one of the better teams in 1A sitting at a 11-3 record so far. Both teams are led by a upperclassman SF with Matthew Ross Matthew Ross 6'4" | SF Peru | 2022 State IN (Peru) and J.J. Morris J.J. Morris 6'6" | SF Argos | 2023 State IN (Argos). It is basically going to come down to which SF has the better game in my opinion. I think Argos is going to get the upset here.
East Central (4A) at Columbus North (4A) – Feb 5th, 7:30pm: The reason that this is on my list because this is a game of 2 sneaky good team2 in Class 4A. Both have been on a roll as of late with Columbus North winning their last 6 games and East Central winning their last 3. Both teams are coached very well and have a solid group of talent. However, I think Columbus North has just a bit more talent with the Bull Dogs being led by Sam King Sam King 6'8" | PF Columbus North | 2022 State IN . Give me Columbus North to protect homecourt here.
