2022 player rankings: 5 high jumpers
The newly updated 2022 Tennessee player rankings saw a handful of high jumpers.
And yes, they were deserving of moving up.
Here are the 5 high jumpers in the 2022 player rankings.
Jalen Anglin, West Carroll: By the end of the 2021 season, the 6-foot-4 guard should be a finalist for Mr. Basketball in TSSAA Division I Class A. Anglin, who jumped up 18 spots to No. 17, has been on a tear this season, out to prove many doubters that he’s worth being mentioned as one of the best players in the state. He shoots the ball well, knows when to make right pass, can take defender off the dribble, and knows how to finish at the rim in transition. Anglin has had a lot of 30-point performances this season, and it hasn’t been a fluke. He’s just that good.
Markese Washington, Memphis East: Washington checks in at No. 22 after being No. 49. The 6-5 wing has been the senior the Mustangs have needed him to be. He’s had solid performances in Memphis East’s wins over Memphis Overton and Memphis University School. He also had a great performance in a double overtime loss to Bartlett. Washington has improved as a jump shooter, which was an area he needed to make strides in. He can push the basketball up the floor in transition and make the right pass when needed. Washington loves to crash the boards and alter shots at the rim.
T.J. Thomas, FACS: Thomas jumps from No. 44 to No. 27. The 6-1 guard has been the catalyst for the Crusaders’ success. He’s a big shot taker, and a big shot maker. Thomas has the trust of his coaching staff, and when the basketball is in his hands, good things seem to happen. He’s shifty enough to get into the lane. Thomas is close to unstoppable when he’s in transition. He can finish with either hand.
JaSteven Walker, Fayette Ware: Walker moved up 16 spots to No. 14. He has earned the right to be a top 15 player in the state. Walker has been a solid shot blocker this season. He has been on the glass, and he’s been annihilating defenders in the paint. Walker has made his presence felt with monster dunks. He’s coming off a 20-point, 15-rebound, and five-block performance in an 80-35 win over Craigmont. Now, many may say “Well, it’s Class AAA.” In a response to that, I will say “He’s doing what he’s supposed to do, and that is to be dominant.” The senior big man has been that for the Wildcats.
Isaiah Regular, Memphis Overton: Regular jumped up 10 spots to No. 19. Regular is one of the best shot blockers in the class. He runs the lane well and does a great job of finishing at the rim. Regular plays aggressive on both ends of the floor, can defend on the perimeter, and communicates well with his teammates. A strong finish to the regular season could have Regular leap into the top 15.
