Hosted by Tournament Director Cecelia Tennert, the event is held to raise money for the Sierra Kids Foundation, a Reno based Non-Profit organization that supplements the efforts of three Northern Nevada programs that work directly with families and young children with Autism. The tournament featured high school teams from Northern California, Las Vegas, and Reno, with the Championship being taken home by Prephoops Nevada #1 Ranked 5A Bishop Gorman. Several players contributed to their teams with their hard work and hard hat mentality. In this article, we take a look at some high-energy and effort players from the event.
Kai Wallin Kai Wallin 6'5" | PF Jesuit | 2022 State CA-N 6’5 PF Jesuit 2022 (#36PHNC 2023) – Wallin was all over the court this weekend. He battled tirelessly down low for rebounds, grabbing several in traffic boards. What was most impressive was his ability to face up and attack the basket. The small ball four-man, was effective putting his head down and finishing through contact. He helped Jesuit reach the championship game of the tournament.
Christopher Myers 6’2 PF Douglas 2022 – Myers seemed to always be in the middle of the action for the Tigers. He worked hard around the rim, defending opposing post while mixing it up for scrappy boards around the basket. The undersized post anchored the defense all weekend for his squad.
Carsen Jensen 6’4 PF Bishop Manogue 2023 (featured image) – Jensen can play on my team any day! He’s what I call a crash test player, as he proved that he is more than willing to sacrifice his body for his team. The forward won more than his share of 50/50 balls and was fearless when attacking the basket.
Trace Patterson 6’4 C Spanish Springs 2022 – Patterson is a football guy, so he had no problem playing physically. The 6’4 banger held down the post for the Cougars with his willingness to defend the interior. He was the muscle, providing physicality and effort for the team, comming off the bench.
Nathan Schnell 6’6 C Vacaville 2023 – Schnell jammed his finger midway through the Semifinal game against Jesuit. Up until that point the big man was a huge problem. A volume rebounder, he was able to control the defensive glass for the Bulldogs, starting the break with his ability to snag the rock and outlet. He also was willing to sacrifice his body for his team, and was probably the unofficial charge take leader for the tournament.
