There was some talent on display last night in the state of Michigan. I’m going to give you a Most Outstanding Player and 5 Honorable Mentions from Wednesday nights action.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

[player_tooltip player_id="1223488" first="Ayden" last="Davis"] (2024, C, Onsted)

Davis was flat out dominant last night. First of all, the Onsted 68-38 victory over Hanover Horton was incredibly impressive. The defense, anchored by Davis in the middle, was stifling. He forces offenses to work around him and extremely limits the options that his opponents have offensively. Davis went off for 30 points by establishing position and earning good looks at the rim.

Lemonte Davis (2022, PG, Vassar)

Davis was flat out dominant on both ends of the floor last night, finishing with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. I was impressed with his ability to create with the ball on the offensive end and his his willingness and effectiveness in putting pressure on the opposing ball handler. Players that get it done on both ends, like Davis last night, are always very valuable.

[player_tooltip player_id="985668" first="Luke" last="Hazelton"] (2023, PF, Glen Lake)

I’ve been really high on Hazelton’s game for years now and last night did nothing but cement my beliefs even more. The young man was a matchup nightmare, displaying his ability to play outside-in or inside-out depending on his opponent. Hazelton scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, leading Glen Lake to a 5-46 win against Elk Rapids.

[player_tooltip player_id="1211127" first="Justice" last="Mims"] (2022, CG, Rochester Adams)

Adams is an extremely talented team this year and Mims will be a large part of their success. Last night he led his team to a 61-31 victory over Swartz Creek. Mims finished the night with 19 points and 2 assists. Mims finished athletically at the rim in addition to showing confidence with his jumper. He also showed the ability to find open teammates when he put the ball on the floor.

Stephen Ruhle (2022, PF, Royal Oak Shrine)

The tough minded post player had himself a night last night, tallying 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks. He was the key to a 52-39 win over Clawson. The multi sport star consistently established position under the rim. Ruhle used his length and verticality to alter and block shots on a regular basis last night.

MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER

[player_tooltip player_id="1130662" first="Sam" last="Lewis"] (2023, SF, Milford)

Lewis is an underrated star that deserves way more notoriety than he gets. The young man is stock full of talent and he showed it last night. He scorched the nets for a total of 32 points. Lewis also grabbed 7 rebounds on the night. He was the centerpiece to a hard fought 64-59 overtime win against a game Plymouth Salem squad. Lewis showed his solid positional size and strength, proving to be a tough matchup all night. He showed a nice looking jumper that he can fire off over defenders. Mark my words, this won’t be the last time that you see Lewis’ name in an MOP article this season.
