Under-the-Radar 2023 Combo Guards

<p>Check out my list of some under the radar 2023 combo guards who you should be keeping an eye on during their junior year campaigns. These guys have been stand out players for their team and should expect some serious attention from the next level.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="892165" first="Levi" last="Rutledge"] 2023 6’6 Cedar Park High School</p> <p>Levi is a huge combo guard with a great feel for the game and high basketball IQ. He is a smooth scorer off the bounce and can do damage in the mid-range or beyond the arc. He is a great decision maker with the ball and has a real ability to create open looks for his teammates. Rutledge operates well out of the high post and with his back to the basket, I was very impressed with the ease of which the scoring came from him in this area.  He is great at finishing at the rim off the bounce, a skill that generates him a ton of easy and efficient offense. His ability to euro step around defenders and find space when there is none was very impressive. He is good at moving around contact at the rim and contorting his body to get a better look for himself.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/devin-lewis-3/">[player_tooltip player_id="1212914" first="Devin" last="Lewis"] </a>2023 6’3 Dallas Carter High School</p> <p>Devin is a dynamic ball-handler who knows how to attack the basket out of the triple threat. He showed an ability to knock down shots from around the arc when given an opportunity to set his feet. He thrives at getting downhill and beating his defenders when they close out too hard. On defense, he is an aware help defender who can slide over to protect the rim or poke the ball free and tie up ball handlers. He has become the focal point of Dallas Carter’s offense and is tasked with scoring in bunches to push his team to victory. Lewis recently was selected for the all tournament team at the Forney ISD Winter Classic.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Deshawn Crawford 2023 6’3 Desoto High School</p> <p>Deshawn is an aggressive guard who knows how to get to the rim with ease. He specializes in attacking the rim off the bounce and can get by defenders with his quick handle. I loved watching him break down defenders and get to a high-quality shot at the rim. On the defensive side of the ball, he is an aggressive on-ball defender who thrives in making his opponent uncomfortable by playing up on them. He seems to have a knack for always shifting his opponent’s hips and making them uncomfortable. He attacks the glass hard as well and knows how to use his size to box out and sky for rebounds. I would like to see him work on his ability to get to his shot in the mid-range.</p> <p>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-B5YAPpRB4&amp;t=172s</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1295866" first="Johnathan" last="Moore"] 2023 5’11 Newport High School</p> <p>Johnathan is an aggressive guard who thrives at putting pressure on the defense with his tenacity. He is an impressive slasher for his size, he is very successful at getting to the rim and drawing contact. I was impressed with his ability to control the tempo of the game. He does not get rushed into bad looks at any level, and has the patience and court vision to set up his teammates for easy looks. He is a true three level scorer, who is very comfortable at scoring in the mid-range. When defenders began fearing his shot, he simply blew by them and got to his spots at the elbows.</p>
