Garrison, SD - This was a cross-Region matchup. Parshall is in Region-8 and Garrison is in Region-5. We had a great start to this game. It was high energy and the teams went back and forth at each other. The first quarter ended with an 18-18 tie. Garrison spaced the floor well on offense and moved the ball well against the Parshall zone. On defense, Parshall did a nice job of forcing turnovers and turning them into buckets. On the other end, Garrison forced their fair share of turnovers. Halftime ended with a Troopers 6 point lead. The second half was more of the same. The Braves never backed down but Garrison always had the lead. It was about to get out of hand towards the end of the game but Parshall would not go away. They made it interesting late. We had an entertaining and fun night of hoops. Read below for comments on the players. A few of the guys put up some gaudy numbers.

Halftime Score: Parshall 28 Garrison 32

Final Score: Parshall 64 Garrison 75

Top Parshall Players

[player_tooltip player_id="1133058" first="Lawrence" last="Polanco"] (2022) |6-0 G|

26 pts, 6-7 ft’s, two 3-pointers. He was very impressive tonight. Lawrence had a perfect pull-up jumper to start the scoring for the game. He is a quick athlete. Polanco scored by utilizing a fake cross, great jab step, and timely jump stops. He had a spectacular left-handed finish in the first half with a man draped all over him, I didn’t think he would get it off, much less make it. He picked off multiple passes in transition. I liked how he broke down his defender and stopped on a dime for a jumper. He uses his body well when around the basket. Lawrence hit pull-up 3-pointers to keep the game close. I loved how he took a charge on defense. Polanco also showed great hustle getting back on defense to force turnovers. It was a great game individually tonight, the Braves just came up a bit short.

Landen Young Bird (2022) |6-2 F|

19 pts, 7-13 ft’s. I was really impressed with his aggressiveness and how he never stopped all game. Landen always seemed to be in "attack mode". He had many physical baskets. He also sprinted the floor hard on both ends. His physicality led to multiple AND1’s. Young Bird had a cool baseline drive that he finished with a slick spin-move that left the D in the dust. He showed off his speed late in the game with a fullcourt layup. Landen was tough on the boards and he fought every possession.

Tyson Odermann (2022) |6-4 F|

8 pts, 2-2 ft’s. Like his teammates, Tyson was always battling on the boards. Odermann showed a great cut on a BLOB that led to a bucket. His hustle and persistence were impressive.

River Querikiol (2024) |5-6 G|

9 pts, one 3-pointer. I thought he had very quick hands that led to many steals and turnovers. River had some of the best handles in the game and maybe the best ball skills. He threw a left-handed pass off the dribble and he threaded the needle between defenders. I liked the looks of his outside shot but he didn’t take many. He is a quick and shifty guard with smooth handles.

Joaquin Powell (2024) |6-4 F|

2 pts, 2-4 ft’s. He showed nice footwork in the first half with an up-and-under move. I liked how he posted hard. I thought Powell had solid shooting form.

Top Garrison Players

[player_tooltip player_id="1125690" first="Connor" last="Kerzmann"] (2023) |5-11 G|

35 pts, 4-4 ft’s, six 3-pointers. He was the best player on the court and wow is Kerzmann a gifted/special athlete. The crazy part is that Connor was playing on a bad ankle. He hit a 3-pointer for the first bucket of the game for the Troopers. He was always moving against the zone to get open for triples. Connor is easily one of the best shooters that I have watched this year. From beyond the arc, he is great at moving without the ball and running the baseline. Kerzmann is light on his feet and super quick. As the ball is coming he sets his feet and gets his hands ready. His elevation is excellent and his release is super soft. I should also note his great balance. In the first half, Connor had a great baseline drive and he found Norenberg for an easy basket. His pull-up jumper was also impressive tonight. He hit multiple and most of them came off 1 or 2 dribbles. Kerzman is smart about not getting too close to the defense. He is opportunistic, Conner scored off a quick cut on a BLOB. This kid was lightning quick, on one of his baseline drives, it was more like a blur he scored so fast. When he has the ball, never look away! In the open court, he has long smooth strides and it seems like he is gliding on the court. Connor had one impressive play where he crossed up a defender and he got to the rim and he contorted his body away for the D for a clean finish. His 3-point shooting range was impressive, he hit many from beyond college range. On defense, Connor forced turnovers and blocked shots. It was one heck of a performance.

Ty Iglehart (2022) |5-8 G|

13 pts, 7-14 fts. I liked his unselfishness and how Ty moved the rock against the zone. He showed great hustle getting back on defense which led to a D-tip steal from behind. Those types of plays can really change the momentum of a game. He also scored off a BLOB with a smart cut. Iglehart had a timely push shot after on offensive rebound. Ty also had a key runner late in the game to help put it on ice.

[player_tooltip player_id="1184662" first="Brady" last="Norenberg"] (2023) |6-8 C|

9 pts, 1-2 ft’s. He is a game-changer because of his sheer size. Brady can not be ignored and people have to account for him. He is a nice change in pace for Garrison as their starting lineup does not have much height. I liked how he scored on the block and he kept the ball high when he got a rebound or a pass. He is immovable when he finds a position he likes. Brady had multiple O-board buckets. With his height and long arms, Brady can snag the ball over the other player’s heads. I liked how he moved to the opposite block when Kerzman drove baseline and Brady received a pass for 2 easy points. Norenberg has plenty of potential.

[player_tooltip player_id="1240554" first="TJ" last="Syvertson"] (2023) |6-1 F|

7 pts, 2-4 ft’s, one 3-pointer. I liked how he moved against the zone from the backside. That way the defenders did not know which way he was going to cut. Tyler showed a smooth 15-foot jumper. He also had a very nice pass down low when he threaded throw the zone. Syvertson was a nice complimentary player tonight.

[player_tooltip player_id="1144980" first="Braxton" last="Iglehart"] (2024) |5-11 G|

6 pts 1-4 ft’s, one 3-pointer. He had a nice floater to end the first quarter. Braxton is a quick kid with an ankle-breaking crossover. I liked how he pushed in transition. He does a nice job of kicking the ball ahead. Late in the game, he knew when to push it but also when to slow it down and to use some clock. On defense, Inglehart has quick hands and he anticipates well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1350687" first="Little" last="Hail Perkins"] (2025) |6-2 SF|

4 pts. He looks to be a promising up-and-comer. Perkins scored both his buckets inside against the zone. He did a nice job of hiding behind the zone and cutting to the open spot. This shows me that he is a smart youngster. You have to like a young player that moves without the ball like that.
