The Coaches for a Cure Classic hosted at Capital University was a great event to see some top teams from central Ohio. In this article, I’ll be highlighting some of the top 2022 performers from the event.

Nick Boysko, 6’3 PF Olentangy Liberty 2022: Olentangy Liberty is starting to figure things out and the play of their seniors is a big reason why. Both [player_tooltip player_id="717039" first="Cooper" last="Davis"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1201819" first="Trey" last="Majidzadeh"] had solid games, but it was Boysko who stood out among the group in a team-oriented win. Boysko plays hard every time I watch him step on the court and usually gets a couple easy buckets because of his motor. He also knocked down a couple big 3-pointers from the top of the key when the game was hanging in the balance.

[player_tooltip player_id="921791" first="Dior" last="Conners"], 6’2 PG Pickerington North 2022: Conner has been battling injuries for a majority of his Sophomore and Junior seasons but has been impressive for the Panthers during his senior season. Conners is a bully style of a lead guard, always looking to drive to the bucket and has the strength to finish through contact. Playing next to other senior guards like [player_tooltip player_id="921757" first="Jerry" last="Saunders"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1138767" first="Corey" last="Hudson"], Pickerington North has a trio of college caliber guard prospects in the 2022 class. With those guys, it’s going to be tough to beat Pick North in the playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id="967176" first="Ryan" last="Paris"], 6’4 SG Hilliard Davidson 2022: Paris was huge for Davidson, knocking down key shots whenever it seemed like the Wildcats needed a bucket. Paris has good size for an off-guard and shoots a quick and high ball over defenders. With his floor spacing and 3 and D abilities, I expect Paris to have a chance to play right away for IU South Bend next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="921739" first="Joshua" last="Whiteside"], 6’7 C Gahanna 2022: Whiteside played like a beast against Dohn Prep, throwing down four dunks in a blowout victory for Gahanna. Whiteside can finish on the block with either hand and protects the rim well. In my opinion, Whiteside is one of the best unsigned senior big men in the state of Ohio. Whiteside helps Gahanna dominate around the basket at both ends alongside Toledo commit [player_tooltip player_id="921759" first="Javan" last="Simmons"].

[player_tooltip player_id="1350313" first="Rico" last="Pickett"], 6’1 SG Walsh Jesuit 2022: Despite Walsh Jesuit taking their first loss of the season, I was impressed with how Pickett played against the unique Hilliard Bradley defense. Picket was able to get into the lane and finish with either hand against the Jags, proving some much-needed rim pressure on their defense. You could tell Walsh relies on a lot of ball-movement to score the basketball and when things started to slow down in the half-court, it was Pickett who typically tried to make a play. Walsh Jesuit has been one of the surprise teams in northeast Ohio and despite seeing them in a loss, it was good to see what type of talent they have this season.
