One of the most prestigious holiday tournaments, the event, hosted by recruiting legend Dinos Trigonis features teams from around the globe. The high school division got underway on Friday, with teams vying for championships in 9 different brackets. With so many different teams, players, and locations to remember the event can be overwhelming. Luckily I’m here to help. In this article, we take a look at some local standouts on day 1 of the event.
Bryant Lagarady 6’8 SF Canyon Springs 2022 – Lagarady has put himself in position to raise his stock considerably. The lefty is a true point forward who is an unselfish passer, that genuinely enjoys making plays for teammates. He showed a strong handle, the ability to get to the cup, and knocked down 3 threes, en route to leading Canyon Springs to a 1st round victory in their bracket.
Jake Bevacqua Jake Bevacqua 5'10" | PG The Meadows School | 2023 State NV 5’10 PG The Meadows School 2023 (#15PHN 2023) – I can always tell when Bevacqua feels good. he was feeling good today, he played with confidence, flashed a nice handle, and showed off his shot-making ability. His ability to reload, stay balanced, and shoot the ball is unique, and he was accurate a few times like that. He also displayed why he is one of the top two-way players in the state, with his ability to hound opposing ballhandlers and cause general havoc on the defensive end. He finished with four threes and 19 points to help the Patriots advance.
Joshua Jefferson Joshua Jefferson 6'8" | PF Liberty | 2022 State #158 Nation NV 6’8 SF Liberty 2022 (#2PHN 2022) (featured image) – I have watched Jefferson play for the past three years, tonight was the best I’ve ever seen him look. Both his body and skill set looked vastly different. Jefferson displayed a leaner, athletic frame, allowing him to finish several plays above the rim. He shot the ball well and with range, and perhaps most impressive of all was his ball skills. Jefferson used P&R action like a point. deftly weaving through defenders on his way to the cup. He finished with 36 in the 1st round win.
Marcus Wilson Marcus Wilson 6'2" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2024 NM 6’4 SG ABC Prep 2024 (#1PHN 2024) – The #1 player in our PHN class of 2024 flashed today. Wilson showed good vision finding players on drives to the rim, and displayed an impressive mid-range pull-up game. He was good in 1 v 1 situations and showed good activity on both ends of the floor.
Andrew Faquay Andrew Faquay 6'7" | PF Desert Valley Prep | 2022 NV 6’7 PF Desert Valley Prep 2023 – Faquay’s energy and activity was tangible, as he ran, rebounded, and finished, The long-armed forward was a willing rim runner, and used his quick jump ability to impact the game on the defensive side, with his rim protection and shot-blocking ability He helped DVP get a win on the day.
Tainui Taiaroa Tainui Taiaroa 6'6" | SF ABC Prep | 2023 State NM 6’6 SF ABC Prep 2022 (#6PHNM 2022) – Taiaroa has the potential to be a solid 3 and D guy.
