Standouts: Sunshine State Basketball Explosion (Pt. 1)

<p>I stopped by <strong>Coconut Creek High School</strong> for the afternoon slate of the Sunshine State Basketball Explosion. The event is run by <strong>Charles Hendrix</strong>.</p> <p>Score rundown:</p> <p>Coral Springs 77, Pine Forest 74</p> <p>St. Thomas Aquinas 67, East Coweta (GA) 51</p> <p>Westminster Academy 77, Benjamin Mays (GA) 65</p> <p>Sagemont 76, Denmark (GA) 59</p> <p>Standouts:</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"] - Westminster Academy</p> <p>2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"] was dominant with 22 points and at least 12 rebounds. The 6-foot-8 power forward was simply too big and strong in the paint for Benjamin Mays. Carey has great footwork when operating around the rim. He threw a nice baseline pass to 2022 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="546221" first="Aidan" last="Abell"]</strong> for a corner 3-pointer. Carey holds an offer from <strong>Ole Miss</strong> and <strong>Florida Gulf Coast</strong>.</p> <p>Allen Mathieu - Coral Springs</p> <p>2022 Allen Mathiew was big-time for the Colts. The 6-foot-4 guard scored 27 points and hit three 3-pointers. I thought Mathieu was catalyst in the Colts’ comeback against Pine Forest. He has some size and did a good job attacking the basket.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1301705" first="Alexander" last="Lloyd"] - Westminster Academy</p> <p>2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301705" first="Alexander" last="Lloyd"] is simply dynamic anywhere on the court. The 6-foot-4 guard had 21 points and hit three 3-pointers. This kid can fly in the open floor and did a great job with his outside stroke. He holds an offer from <strong>Florida Gulf Coast</strong>.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1161400" first="Matthew" last="Cadogan"] - St. Thomas Aquinas</p> <p>2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1161400" first="Matthew" last="Cadogan"] finished with 16 points. I thought the 6-foot-5 guard did a good job attacking the basket in the second half. Cadogan has the length and dexterity to finish at the rim. I also thought he did a nice job on the defensive glass. Cadogan could be more aggressive at times, especially earlier in games.</p> <p>Zakiah Saez - St. Thomas Aquinas</p> <p>2023 Zakiah Saez is a nice body for the Raiders. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound forward finished with eleven points. Saez did a good job scoring around the basket and hit a 3-pointer. He brings an element of toughness around the paint for St. Thomas Aquinas.
