It is Monday which means it is time to update our Prep Hoops Indiana Class Rankings. We are now into week five of the basketball season and we are starting to learn more and more about who truly belongs in the Top 10 of their respective classes. Let’s dive on in.
Class 1A
We’ve got a new number one team here in Class 1A. It was difficult to move Gary 21st Century down when all they did was lose to a Top 10 4A program, but North Daviess has earned the move to #1. Their victory over Hammond Central on Friday sealed the deal for them taking the top spot in the polls. Edinburgh continues to rise as they are off to a perfect 7-0 start to their season.

Class 2A
The top five all remain stagnant in Class 2A with each team staying undefeated. Losses knocked Covenant Christian and Southwestern (Hanover) out of the polls as we welcome Westview and Eastern Hancock to the Top 10. Linton-Stockton and Central Noble both appear to be teams that can compete with anyone in any class while Blackhawk is looking as strong as ever as well.

Class 3A
We do rankings a little differently here at Prep Hoops Indiana. Instead of getting so wrapped up in moving teams up and down after losses we actually examine the games. For example, there is really no argument to be made that Brebeuf Jesuit isn’t deserving of the #1 ranking in 3A. They lost by one in overtime to a Top 5 4A team as their only blemish. Also, Mishawaka Marian just lost to a Top 10 4A team. Why should that move them down in the rankings? For the same reason, North Harrison hangs on at #10 after a one point overtime loss to Brownstown Central. The best teams are still the best teams.

Class 4A
The 4A poll is actually getting harder, not easier, to put together as the season goes on. Homestead falls to #7 from #2 after their loss to Chesterton. It seems hard to still have the undefeated Trojans behind a team they just beat, but that is how it works sometimes. Zionsville maintains a strangle hold on the top spot while Cathedral tumbled a few spots after losing to Arsenal Tech. Still, the Irish are one of the best teams in the state and won’t be severely punished for one loss against another very good team.
