MONDAY’S SCHEDULE/RESULTS

Southmoore 44 Midwest City 42

A balanced Southmoore team built an early lead and then held off Midwest City’s fourth quarter charge. The Sabercats run a disciplined offense built around dribble handoffs and constant motion. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="1164887" first="Ethan" last="Clark"] was the player to benefit for them in the morning match up as he ended up with nearly 20 points. Clark showed a quick and compact shooting motion as he buried long range triples. And then was able to get into the lane against the bigger Bombers. Junior Amos Mobley, a lanky 6 foot 1 guard, broke into double figures scoring for Midwest City as their lone jump shooting weapon.

Putnam City North 70 Shawnee 65 OT

It was the [player_tooltip player_id="964493" first="Jaylon" last="Orange"] and [player_tooltip player_id="964491" first="Tanner" last="Morris"] show for a determined Wolves squad. Every time Putnam City North cut into the lead, Orange and Morris had an answer. The duo combined for nearly 60 points for Shawnee. Unfortunately for the Class 5A Wolves, it was not enough to upset the Class 6A Panthers. With 0.8 seconds remaining, Orange hit a pair of free throws to extend the Shawnee lead to 57-54. Putnam City North junior [player_tooltip player_id="1068574" first="Zander" last="Baker"] would take the inbound pass from the opposite free throw line and bank it in to force OT.

In the extra frame, the Panthers would ride the momentum of the miraculous shot. Baker and senior Mandrell Dean built a quick lead and complete the comeback for PCN. Putnam City North will now face Southmoore at 5:30 tomorrow in semifinals action.

Carl Albert 62 Westmoore 57

Carl Albert are defending Class 5A champions but graduated nearly their full roster from that team. Even with five new starters, Carl Albert looks primed to be a factor come March and will be active in defending their 5A crown, especially thanks to a strong group of sophomores and juniors. The Titans proved they’re one of the top teams in the 405 with this victory over the Jaguars to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Three Titans led the way with double figures in scoring. Sophomore Quincy Hopkins had 16, while junior Tashawn James had 14 and junior [player_tooltip player_id="1211255" first="Jordan" last="England"] paced them with 17. Hopkins was especially impressive, as the 6 foot 3 youngster has a strong and powerful frame, that he put to good use when attacking the rim. Westmoore had two players in double figures, [player_tooltip player_id="981279" first="Evan" last="Barber"] with 15 and [player_tooltip player_id="1211257" first="Zach" last="Hays"] with 16.
