Wednesday December 8th-Saturday December 11th I attended the Hoophall West at Chaparral HS in Scottsdale, AZ.

There were three to four games a day with many Arizona teams playing in the prestigious West Coast event.

We look at some of the top performers.

Here were the top PG Performers:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="954224" first="Dylan" last="Andrews"] AZ Compass Prep

A scoring point guard who is incredible on the ball defensively. He moves his feet quickly laterally and he can score it. His pull-up from mid-range is clean and hits the catch-3. He uses his speed and handle to get to the basket and will score it though contact.

[player_tooltip player_id="787641" first="Milos" last="Uzan"] Dream City Christian

An elite passing pure point guard throws the lob pass flawlessly. He can finish with his left just as well as his right. He hesitates and goes quickly to the basket about as well as you could. He has a polished floater and can shoot it from the periemeter.

[player_tooltip player_id="701251" first="Miles" last="Nash"] Brophy Prep

A smart and crafty downhill scorer who has good strength. He manages to get to the FT line in bunches and makes a high percentage of them. He uses a burst to get to the paint and uses his gifts to score near traffic.

2023

[player_tooltip player_id="814039" first="Mark" last="Brown Jr"] Mountain Pointe

A powerful scoring lead guard is tough and fearless. He has a nasty pull-up from mid-range. He rebounds the ball unusually well for a PG and he can also pull-up from the 3pt line off the dribble. He is a rare player that actually may be a better shooter with the ball then off the catch. He makes plays for others and his toughness shines through every game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1345403" first="Jayven" last="Price"] Mountain Pointe

A quick ball handler who can hit the open 3pt shot. He is a sure ball handler and rarely turns the ball over. You don’t see him make bad decisions and can handle pressure versus opposing guards and brings it defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id="831128" first="Ryan" last="Ginsberg"] Desert Mountain

A pure PG who runs a lot of their offense. He is heady player and a shot maker. He happened to make a critical floater to send the game into OT and the Wolves eventually beat Chaparral.

Here was the exciting finish in regulation:

2024

[player_tooltip player_id="994006" first="Styles" last="Phipps"] St. Mary’s

An easy scorer and facilitator. His step back from mid-range is money. He is a very good passer and controls his teams pace. He makes plays for everyone on the court and can hit the catch-3. He has good speed and the ball on a string.

[player_tooltip player_id="1345369" first="Ben" last="Rosenberg"] Chaparral

An undersized lead guard with no fear. He brings some fire to his team with his on-ball defense. He is quick laterally and handles the ball well. The lefty has deep 3pt range and fires it out of his hands quickly.
