Continue ReadingZionsville, who entered Tuesday night’s game ranked #1 in the state with a perfect 7-0 record, had to survive a scare against the Kokomo Wildkats. The first quarter was sloppy and slow with neither team able to find the bottom of the net very often. The Eagles held just a 7-6 advantage after one.
The game sped up in the next period but 6’10″ sophomore big man Flory Bidunga started to really control the game at both ends for Kokomo. Freshman Zion Bellamy knocked in a couple of shots as well that would eventually give the Wildkats a 25-24 halftime lead.
It was a back-and-forth affair consistently through the first 24 minutes. After each team traded one point leads in the first half, the same happened in the third with Zionsville clinging to a 35-34 lead. After Kokomo had some success from beyond the arc in the first half, they mostly went cold after heading to the locker room at halftime.
Down the stretch, Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN took the game over for Zionsville. As you would expect from one of the states best players, the junior point guard put the Eagles on his back and willed them to victory in the fourth. As a team, they put the clamps on defensively as well holding Kokomo to just six points in the forth quarter. Zionsville would go on to win 51-40 to improve to a perfect 8-0 on the season.
It was Imes that led all scorers with 23 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Johnathan MacAbee added 11 for the Eagles. On the Kokomo side it was Flory Bidunga who went for 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Freshman Zion Bellamy added 10 points for the Wildkats.
On Sunday we will be back with some player evaluations from this game. For now, just know that junior Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN is one of the smoothest guards in the state regardless of class and should continue to see more high-major Division I offers roll in. On that same note, 6’10″ Flory Bidunga has most likely taken over the #1 spot in the Class of 2024 prospect rankings (all rankings will be updated in the coming weeks). He moves more fluidly than just about any 6’10″ sophomore I’ve ever evaluated in Indiana. Dominated inside tonight against two very good big men for Zionsville.
