Continue ReadingWednesday’s morning game from the Paul Loggan Memorial Invitational came down to the final possession. After building an early lead, Avon dug too big of a hole in the third quarter to ultimately finish off the comeback. Floyd Central escaped with a 56-55 victory to move to 6-2 on the season.
The game started out great for the Orioles of Avon. They were locked in defensively, moving the ball offensively, and held on to a 14-7 lead after a Chrishon McCray Chrishon McCray 5'10" | PG Avon | 2022 State IN buzzer-beating three-pointer. The tide would quickly start to turn in Floyd Central’s favor in the second period though.
The Highlanders kept chipping away and eventually took their first lead of the game at 20-19 after a Brady Moore Brady Moore 6'5" | SF Floyd Central | 2022 State IN bucket inside. At the half it was a tied game at 25 a piece.
Coming out of the locker room it was a different game. Floyd Central took control in the third taking a 45-33 advantage that would be just enough to hold on down the stretch. Avon would come all the way back to cut it to a two point game in the final minutes, but never could get over the hump. The closest they would get was the final score as Daniel Eck scored as time expired to set the final score of 56-55.
Player Evaluations
Daniel Eck (Avon H.S. 2023): Long, skilled 6’4″ forward that can score the basketball in a variety of ways. The lefty is a good shooter from beyond the arc and a crafty bucket-getter inside. As he continues to get strong his game will really take the next step. High-upside prospect right now.
Jordan Lomax Jordan Lomax 6'3" | SG Brownsburg | 2024 State IN (Avon H.S. 2024): It wasn’t Lomax’s most active game as the size and strength of Floyd Central caused some difficulties around the basket for the thin sophomore. However, the overall ball skill is still very apparent. Lomax can get by his man off of the dribble anytime he wants and showcased continued improvement on the defensive end.
Brady Moore Brady Moore 6'5" | SF Floyd Central | 2022 State IN (Floyd Central H.S. 2022): Moore is a physical 6’4″ forward with excellent finishing ability around the basket. Showed off the ability to drive it from the wings while also operating with his back to the basket. Will make a good small college 4-man.
Caleb Washington Caleb Washington 6'5" | PF Floyd Central | 2023 State IN (Floyd Central H.S. 2023): This 6’4″ wing/forward is super skilled for his size and plays a physical brand of basketball. Put up a team-high 13 points in the Highlanders win this morning. Washington is a very intriguing prospect that should attract more and more interest from all levels.
