After taking a look at some of the best freshman from around the state contributing at the varsity level we will now turn our attention to the sophomore class. These are five sophomores that are making serious noise to begin their seasons.
Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN (Brownstown Central H.S. 2024)
This sharp-shooting sophomore has lit it up so far this season for the Brownstown Central Braves. Benter has already put up performances of 33 and 36 points this season, with one of those coming in a big win over state-ranked North Harrison. Brownstown is 6-0 and much of their success is thanks to the scoring prowess of this 6’4″ sophomore.
Flory Bidunga (Kokomo H.S. 2024)
Bidunga has quickly solidified himself as one of the top prospects not just in his class, but in the entire state of Indiana this season. The 6’10″ center was a complete unknown coming into the season but has immediately made a major impact for the Kokomo Wildkats. Bidunga is averaging a team-leading 12.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 5.1 blocks per game. Remember this name.
Brauntae Johnson Brauntae Johnson 6'2" | PG Fort Wayne North Side | 2024 IN (Fort Wayne North H.S. 2024)
Johnson is one of the premier athletes in the state of Indiana as a top ranked football and basketball recruit. His explosiveness on the court helps him stuff the stat sheet each night for the Legends. The 6’3″ guard is averaging a team-best 20.7 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. He can do it all.
Taden Metzger Taden Metzger 6'3" | SG Fishers | 2024 State IN (Marion H.S. 2024)
When looking for a lights out shooter, look no further than this Marion sophomore. Metzger has connected on 20 of 47 three-point attempts this season for the Giants and averages 15.9 points per game. 6’2″ guard that can really fill it up in a hurry.
Ron Rutland III Ron Rutland III 6'1" | SG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN (Crispus Attucks H.S. 2024)
This athletic 6’2″ guard has made an instant impact for Crispus Attucks after transferring over this season. Rutland III is averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds on 36% shooting from beyond the arc through his first nine games. He is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. Rutland’s upside matches that of just about anyone in the 2024 class.
