Coach Q and Lima Senior provided teams from NWO to play against some of the best teams in the state the past weekend. I was only in the gym covering on Sunday. The games I was at were Mansfield Senior against Thurgood Marshall, Dayton Dunbar against Rossford, and Sylvania Northview against Lima Senior. Here are my MVPs from those three games.

Mansfield Senior vs Thurgood Marshall

MVP: Ronald Smith (2022): G, 6’3, Thurgood Marshall

Ronald Smith brings a lot of energy to the table. His presence and voice are felt when he came onto the floor. He had some foul trouble against Mansfield Senior and his absence was felt as Thurgood Marshall struggled in the first half, then almost comeback and won the game in the second half because of his presence. He is a great teammate and leader. He makes good decisions with the ball and can shoot it. He has a good pull-up jumper game and underrated vision and passing ability.

Dayton Dunbar vs Rossford

MVP: Darian Leslie (2022): G, 5’11, Dunbar

Darian Leslie is a great decision-maker. He handed the rock the whole game for Dayton Dunbar and killed Rossford all game. He was very effective in the pick-n-roll as he made great decisions on kicking it or keeping it. He is a very quick and shifty guard that handles the ball well. He is a vocal leader at times and you can tell wants to win. He took control of the game and was the main reason Dunbar won the game on Sunday even though he was not the top scorer.

Sylvania Northview vs Lima Senior

MVP: [player_tooltip player_id="1195138" first="Brent" last="Moss"] (2022): F, 6’6, Lima Senior

[player_tooltip player_id="1195138" first="Brent" last="Moss"] was the most impressive player I saw all day at Keewpee’s Holiday Classic on Sunday. Moss is a 6’6 forward that is long and a freak athlete. Moss had the tough task of trying to stop Northview’s best player [player_tooltip player_id="809616" first="Sean" last="Craig"] and he did exactly that. He shut him down all night long. He pressured full court and was in Craig’s lap anytime he caught the ball. Moss has an impressive ability to play outside as well. He brought the ball up multiple times for Lima and he hit some tough pull-up jumpers, showing that he has the ability to play a stretch forward or guard at the next level with a little more development. He also plays with very high energy, he talks constantly and has fun when he plays.
