SubscribeThe “A” division in the city of the CHSAA is loaded with talent. It is always a hotly contested race to a title. Let’s look at some of the teams who have gotten off to good starts and which players have propelled them. Even though these schools are classified as “A” they regularly compete against AA schools across the state.
Lasalle has gotten off to a good start, it’s not a surprise if you saw them compete at a couple of CHSAA events, during the off season. Brendan Armour Brendan Armour 6'6" | PF St Edmunds | 2023 State NY a junior guard sets the tempo for them on most nights. He is scoring 15 points per game. But he is much more then that. He defends and rebounds well. Excellent shooter from three. Also gets into the lane and creates for himself or teammates. Crafty ball handler who makes the right pass at the right time. Carlos Lorenzo a senior guard leads the team in scoring at 18 ppg. Excellent shooter. Very fluid motion. Strong off of baseline drives. A communicator and leader on the floor. Aaron Gray was impressive when I saw him in the off season events. He showed the ability to control the boards. He has a very nice jump hook over the right shoulder on the low block. He is putting up 7ppg and doing a nice job with interior defense.
Fordham Prep is a good stop for a college program to check out. Nate Boateng is the real deal. He makes a difference on both ends of the floor. A jump out of the gym type player. Can defend the rim, score inside or step out and shoot it. Nate is a lanky lefty who needs some more college attention. You will not be disappointed. Averaging 13 a game. Omari Ward is another player to come and see. Might be the best pure point in the CHSAA. But he can also score. A terrific ball handler with excellent court vision and awareness. Omari was given the keys to the car as a sophomore and now as a senior he is a special player. He is putting up 17 ppg while running the show. Thomas Whelan was in our super seventy he was also in our three ball specialist report. He is showing the city how worthy he was of those honors. A terrific shooter from three. Has unlimited range. Tough competitor who is fearless going to the rim. Along with Omari, Fordham Prep has two guys who can handle the ball or play off of it.
