Sierra Canyon and Fairfax were the two local schools who participated and they had the opportunity to play on an NBA court. I was able to attend the event, and while there were a lot of big name players, here’s a quick look at some of other players who stood out.
1. David Mack – Fairfax 2024
Mack is only sophomore, but he ran the team like an experienced point guard. He does a good job controlling the offense. He’s quick off the dribble and can get to the cup in a flash. Good burst of speed when he attacks downhill. Pushes the pace well in transition. He’s got a nice little crossover to get into the lane and he can finish through traffic; good body control. He has a consistent shot from three-point range.
2. Dylan Metoyer – Sierra Canyon 2023
Metoyer came off the bench, but he did a great job running the offense and playing some minutes with the starters. He’s a solid point guard prospect. He has good vision and does a good job kicking the ball back out when the defense collapses. He’s a strong ball-handler who can get to the rim but has to finish a little stronger. He pushes the pace in transition and kicks the ball ahead to open teammates. Swings the ball well in the halfcourt to keep offense flowing.
3. Tyler Bey Tyler Bey 6'9" | SF Fairfax | 2023 #177 Nation CA-S – Fairfax 2023
Bey is a player I’ve seen a couple of times now and he’s a natural scorer. He is comfortable with the ball in his hands and creating shots for himself. He can take a couple of dribbles and pull up for a jumper and he has good elevation on his shot. He can handle the ball and he finishes strong at the rim. He can shoot well from distance. He has good length and height and he can get into the paint and rebound well. He’s got the tools to be a good defender too.
4. Mikey Price – Sierra Canyon 2023
Price is capable of playing both guard positions. He’s a natural scoring guard but he has a little playmaking to his game as well. He’s very quick in transition and he can draw fouls to get to the free-throw line. Good ball-handler who stays under control against defensive pressure. He’s quick off the bounce and finishes well at the rim. He can put on the jets and blow past his defender.
