Continue ReadingEvery year, a few players come from seemingly nowhere to make an impact on the high school season. Some get their opportunity because of graduations, for others, it’s simply a result of all the hard work they put in over the summer. With this being the Holiday season we figued it was a good time for gifts. In this article, we take a look at some of the early season surprise players.
Jayden Martinez 5’10 PG Espanola 2022 – Martinez has had a breakout season for the Sundevils. After averaging less than 4 per game, the 5’10 scoring guard has increased his point total by almost 10 more ppg. He is currently averaging over 13 ppg for a squad that is sitting at 10-2 on the season.
Gabriel Trujillo 6’4 SF La Cueva 2022 – One of the main catalysts to the Bear’s hot start has been Trujillo. The senior forward has been magnificent in his breakout season, averaging almost 14ppg. He’s done it in other ways besides scoring as well averaging nearly 6 rebounds to go along with with almost two steals per game.
Michael Mackey Hobbs 2023 – Mackey has increased his scoring, going from a little over 6 points per game as a sophmore to almost 12 per as a junior. His best improvemnt is without question on the defensive end, as he has become one of the top thiefs in the state. Mackey averages almost 3 steals a game, and has helped the Eagles to a 9-1 start.
Jevon Aguliar Hagerman 2025 – Yes Aguliar is a freshman so any production could be considered and accomplishment, however he has played well enough to be a contributor to a team that is currently undefeated. The class of 2025 scorer has averaged over 8 points per game, while also chipping in on the defensive end with almost 2 steals per game.
Joseph Zamora 6’4 Magdalena 2025 – Much like Aguliar, Zamora has made an impact in his freshman season. The 6’4 forward has been terrific for a talented Magdalena squad. Zamora is averaging almost 7 points per game, however it is his rebounding that has been the biggest contributing factor to the squad. Zamora has pulled down nearly 7 a game en route to helping the Steers to an undefeated record early in the season.
