The 67th Gridley Invitational took place in Gridley California Dec 9-11. PH was in the gym evaluating and gathering information on players who we thought played well. Here’s a list of players in the 2023 Class that put themselves in position to get more looks down the line. In previous articles we highlighted the top players in this class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1255642" first="Emerson" last="Jones"] 6’6 Wing/Forward of Salesian Prep HS 2023

The long wiry Emerson plays with good energy. He has good foot speed to guard on the wings, he’s a bit on the thin side, but long, and can hold his own in the paint. He can finish around the rim, has a good jumper in the post, he gets out and runs the court in transition.

Clay Naffziger 6’2 Guard of Campolindo HS 2023

It was our first look at Naffziger. He’s a good shooter who can make shots from mid-range and behind the 3-Pt line. He was good on the catch and shoot, and made timely jumpers from the mid-range area in the title game. He’s a good passer, he made good decisions with the ball. He makes a good effort to help with team rebounding. He had 17pts, 9rebs in the title game.

Mike Wilson 6’3 guard of Sacramento HS. 2023

A strong guard who’s a good rebounder, and a tough minded defender, he can handle the physical parts of the game. In game two he led his team in scoring with 21pts. He takes it to the basket strong from the baseline, and can hit the short jumper. In 3 games he made eleven 3-Ptrs. Averaged 15.6 pts, 7.6 rebs.

Isiah Chala Jr. 6’5 forward of Archbishop Riordan HS 2023

Chala’s a big solid player who can hit the 3 at the top when he takes it. He makes good passes, doesn’t rush things on the court. With his low base and strength he’s a steady player in the post area. He’s hard to back down. He has a good touch around the rim. He’s a solid rebounder and delivers strong outlet passes to start the break.

Quentin Kennedy 6’4 Forward of Archbishop Riordan HS 2023

Kennedy seems to have the 2 dribble back your man down and shoot over him move down pretty good. He used it several times at this event with good success. He’s kind of crafty in the way he works for points around the basket. He’s not afraid to put up a catch and shoot 3. He can handle a bit and sees the floor well to deliver solid passing. We’ll see more of him.

Evin Goodwin 6’2 Guard of Salesian Prep HS 2023.

At 6’2 Goodwin has a solid build, and is a good rebounding guard. He can rebound and push. He drives hard to the basket, and handles the contact on the way. He can hit the short corner jumper and attacks from the baseline pretty well. He can defend on the perimeter, and make the taller players work for their points in the paint.
